  • Hilary Stace,

Just a question for those with legal brains. In regions like Wellington where the regional council voting uses FPP while the other ballots are STV - if someone writes numbers in the boxes beside an allowable number of candidates instead of strict ticks or crosses, will they be counted as valid votes?

  • Sacha,

With the amalgamated Wellington Council in place before your next elections (just like the Auckland and Canterbury ones), the issue will disappear..

    Thanks for the update...

    But from the same article...

Last month 306 people were removed from the electoral roll after an electoral enrolment centre audit found they were living at addresses they had given in Papatoetoe, South Auckland.

You know... I'm pretty sure thats exactly what they didNT find...

Sure, we all make typos, but when they change the meaning 180 degrees... you'd think someone at the paper would spot it...

  • Kyle Matthews,

I forsee a student prank next year of enrolling 300 people from one address, and then when they turn up to check having all 300 there waiting for them.

And I guess it's just one of those fibre-rich "what if?" questions whether this would have had an impact if it had happened earlier. (BTW, I'm not warming up for some Kiwibogian conspiracy theory - as far as I'm concerned the Police investigation and the conduct of Justice Simpson has been beyond reproach.)

    So Auckland has changed games...
no longer embodying Snakes and Leaders
its rolls are now defined by Hide and Sikh...

    ...is that my coat?
    I'll be off then!

Definitely, but to be entirely fair Daljit Singh instructed his lawyer to exercise a perfectly legitimate appeal of Judge Simpson's decision, and it's hard to argue that the Auckland High Court dragged its feet.

    Sadly that's been well covered:

Am I reading that right? There’s a secret organisation running in the sikh community for over 120 years (they make it sound like the Asian Triad Gangs)

Sikhs are very Industrious, but they can be way over the top in their disdain for other Sun Continent ethnic groups.

Seen it first hand in the UK. It does come as no surprise that the elders are dismayed at being above the Radar.

However when you are a fully subscribed member of the party of Crime and disorder then the Police seem to leave you alone.

You can guarantee that there has been a frenzy of shredding and deletion of paper, phone and computer files in an attempt to put distance between the upstanding Labour candidates (and organisation) and these activities.

What the fuck is this talk of a “Sikh community”?

Do they live in this country or in a sperate sikh state? How about people just stop blindly accpeting these seperations and differing treatments as being normal and accpetable.

you know what sikhs are/ They’re people. Thats it, just people. We have people shitting themself over Paul Henry makiing the distinctionas that everyone here seems to be taking for granted. Either they’re kiws just like everyone else, or they’re lost.

The bigger message is new zealanders can’t trust the Labour party. I guess it’s the recession, cheaper to just use peoples names than give them KFC vouchers.

A more wretched hive of scum and villainy, &c.
