Sometimes timing is all. On a work trip to the UK one of the office lads picked me up from the airport and hit me with a couple of minutes of evidently good-natured but nonetheless incomprehensible gibberish. There was a moments silence as we looked at each other then he said:
"I'll get me coat".
A year later NZ got The Fast Show, and I discovered that it wasn't just jet-lag and a Brummie accent that had stumped me.

Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition.
It's all I've got.

'I've fallen and I can't get up'
I tripped and I can't get down.

Your speaking in riddles, Giovanni.
It doesn't mean what you think it means.
-
I don't think you know what I mean.
I get that a lot.
-
Giovanni, you can stop doing the silly walks now, if you wish.
I can't watch the video right now, I'll have to get back to you.
We were actually Monty Python deprived, as kids, on account of the fact they never dubbed the Flying Circus into Italian. A (kiwi) friend assures me that they are much funnier in Czech, a piece of info I've always taken with a large piece of rock salt. But perhaps he's right. -

Czech? You should hear them in German

Crikey - how do they do the Hilter sketches in German?

I once saw the 'Don't Mention the War' episode of Fawlty Towers at a Picton Backpackers full of Germans.
They took it very well, considering. More bemused than amused though.

I remember that playing while we had a german exchange student living with us. My "sister" was fine with it and thought it was at least a little funny but the truly hilarious thing (at least from a 17 year old view point) was the contortions my mother went through trying to stop her from watching it
I don't tend to go for the pop culture quotes too much having a not-too-reliable memory for such things and a fear of misquoting foolishly but I was once very successfully picked up with a Hitchhikers-guide reference.

Was it 'is this guy boring you..."?

Was it 'is this guy boring you..."?
Why yes it was - how did you guess?
-
I was going to pick: 'It must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays.'
-
Why yes it was - how did you guess?
Cause that'd go a long way to working on me.
Could I also have a decent stab at the pick-up-er?

I'd give you three guesses but that'd be a waste of two of 'em.
