Hi all. The email form appears to have broken at a bad time. I’ll get it fixed asap.
Update: Fixed!

I've tweeted RB about some help I can provide - should be in touch soon!

Gonna email all the beauty product PR companies who send me stuff to review and see what they can do about providing toiletries...

Oh Jo. That would be amazing. It's an ongoing need, the small stuff that no-one ever thinks about so that would so kind x

Hi Jackie, thanks for doing this. Is this Te Whare Marama o Mangere Refuge?
-
Yup, which city, please, so I can direct my shout-out.

Yeah, it's Auckland.

I find it a bit easier to give money than stuff. Can you set up a givealittle or something? Or does that mess up their other funding?
I hit up the big phone companies for a bit of support. That works sometimes, who knows.

It is, George. They've had a new Co-ordinator for the last year, and she's doing absolute wonders. She loves the women so very much, and is very passionate about advocating for them.

Morgan you can just put money in their account, if you like.

Have emailed, I will do a clear out and I'm sure I have wardrobe, shoes, toiletries and other usefuls to pass on. Will spread the word too!

So, used clothes and bras are ok? If in good condition of course. (Don't think my old knickers will do anyone any good...) And if one made a regular contribution, is this able to be used as a tax deduction? Might as well ask. Good luck and thanks Jackie.

Ah, wonderful! My Mum chairs their board - they're an excellent organisation providing incredible help to people in need. I believe one of the reasons they're not part of the traditional collective is because they have a whanau-based model, which allows for reconciliation (if and when it is appropriate), and they're strong on support for the whole family.
I've also heard a rumour that a certain young female NZ pop star will be giving out gifts to women and their children next week...

We have a fantastic group here in Porirua http://kiwicommunityassistance.weebly.com/ who support various and many community agencies. They have received large quantities of toiletries, linen, towels, robes etc from one of the major Wellington hotels. Perhaps this is another avenue to approach for regular donations to the refuge? Hope this might help up in Auckland.

Am in Wellington, so will definitely donate cash as that is probably the most practical thing.
Also, if they want fresh fruit and homemade jams, perhaps if they haven't already they could get in contact with Community Fruit Harvesting - https://www.facebook.com/pickfruit

Thank you Jackie for highlighting this cause, I've chipped in with a donation and hope many more can do the same.

Jackie - it is a beautiful thing you are doing.
Last year my wife, who is one half of Tory and Ko Jewellery in Wellington, decided to collect presents for children in Refuges in the Wellington region. Sse contacted them and was told that the Wellington refuge does OK and would she mind collecting toys for children nationally. We were gobsmacked to find out that there are over 200 children in refuges on Christmas Day. As the parents of a 5 year old this blew us away.
They ended up collecting 250 presents and these were distributed all over the country. My wife was constantly amazed at the generosity of people. They are doing this again this year and are well on the way.
If PA'ers in Wellington want to donate presents they can at T&K Jewellers in the Old Bank Arcade. You will receive a little something for your trouble....
Great job Jackie at raising awareness for the Refuge and their needs.

Jackie et al,
if one wanted to contact a local Refuge and find out how many kids need gifts, how would one (as a man) do that in the least threatening way possible? would the email addresses make the most sense? I'd like to see what I can put together via work/twitter friends, but I think ringing them up would be fraught.
