Although the first episode might suffer a little from Desperate Housewives' disease, in that it has to do quite a bit of setting up plot again, after nearly all the loose ends were tied up at the end of season one.
I thought they avoided it rather well - but I'm praying Maya and Alejandro don't end up being this year's Nikki and Paulo. That would be one of those fates worse than death I hear so much about...
And am I the only person who wishes Tim Kring could give an interview without having a mini-stroke whenever someone says 'science fiction' and Heroes in the same sentence?

...and Deborah Mailman. Where's their token Native Australian?
??? Deborah Mailman is the token Native Australian. But yeah, top series. When it came out in Aussie it was pay TV-only, so was winning (deserved) awards all over the place when nobody had really seen it.
-
Aaargh, ignore me about Deb Mailman, got my series crossed. Must not post before caffeine.

Peter Petrelli and Hiro. So dang hot. And Nathan's beard is a bit phwoar too.
Where was Ali Larter? I found her character the lamest by a long stretch so wouldn't be sad if she had gone awol
Boy those Irish henchmen had some appalling accents!

I reckon ‘50 Ways of Saying Fabulous’ (Friday TV 3 11.15pm) is worth a watch. It’s faults are pretty obvious, including the strange faun hue that is cast over the colour to disguise the fact that the dry Central Otago landscape was flushed with green after recent rains. Good performances from 13 year old leads Andrew Patterson and Harriet Beattie, and a really intense one from supporting actor Jay Collins. One of those under funded Kiwi films that made it to the screen against the odds.

Weren't they just?
"O'ho boy-o, let's have a wee look-see in dat dere coun-tain'r"
"Fiddly-dee-dee, potatoes and leprechauns"But too many things in the pilot were brought in abruptly. Matt's going through a divorce? Nathan's alive but not the Senator? George Takei is dead.
-
Is it just me, or could Hiro's visit to feudal Japan have been written by Terry Pratchett? Cohen the Barbarian goes East...

It settles down after that opening bit of frantic scene-setting.

But to be fair, you can go to the other extreme and do a lot of enormously clumsy expository info-dumps, which become downright silly when folks decide to stand around telling each other what they've been doing for the last four months.
Personally, I don't appreciate being treated like an idiot who needs every plot point and character beat spelt out in 70 foot high neon. One thing that really niggled at me: Mohindar and Parkman have custody of a girl neither of them are related to for the last four months, and they don't have social workers camped out on their doorstep? Even in Sodom on the Hudson, that's a willing suspension of disbelief too far. :)

Sounded like Tuhoe to me

One word: Heeeerrrrroooeeesss!
Pish...as awful as that rubbish X-men.
Charlie Brooker mocks it nicely in one of his screenswipes....think it's this one
Somehow I endured a Heroes episode, spent mainly wondering how TV had become sooooo bad.

I can't find the one where Brooker politely suggests that Brits who like to sneer at American television should pull their heads out of their fat, stupid fucking arses and compare a randomly selected episode of The Wire to an equally randomly selected episode of The Bill.
As Brooker says Heroes may be "pure shlock" but it's well made and generally engaging - much like Doctor Who, which is a damn sight more enjoyable and intelligent than the general run of 'quality British drama' running on One's Sunday night disasterpiece theatre slot.
-

So the gaijin is Cohen, and Hiro is... the Japanese version of Rincewind? Yeah, I can see that.
Hey I found Hex in the Listener, but they've got the little 'return season' marker on it - does anyone know, has an earlier season already screened (or is this a repeat)? I remember reading about it a while back but I didn't think it had been on yet. -

Word. It's interesting to look at the origins of the "quality" British TV that gets shown on TV here. We might like to think it's all from BBC 1, but you'd be surprised at how much of it comes from the more populist channels like Channel 4 and the fruity tooty Five.

She's a little bit ....
Marie Osmond crashes on Dancing With The Stars -
Hey! How come Jon Knox got his screen embedded and all I got was a YouTube link? What's the secret Jon?
-
What's the secret Jon?
I don't think there is a secret...I can recall being baffled about it a number of months ago when I saw that someone had managed to embed youtube in the public address system....infact I spent a bit of time attempting to "guess" if there was a tag or escape sequence that would allow the excessive long link with properties to be interpreted correctly , but the youtube links (& I think google video) are identified when you post a simple youtube url on public address and it then gets interpreted correctly.....( I wish I had another good vid to post just to show off!!! but don't)....pointing Fiona at some good TV

Yep. The guys were keen to keep real HTML out of the forums, so if you want to embed a YouTube or Google Video clip, just paste in the URL (__not__ the embed code from YouTube) and it will happen automagically.
But you need a YouTube URL with the "www" included for it to work.

Can I just perform a valuable public service, and draw everyone's attention to "So you want to be a Superhero", which was on C4 last night at 8:30. First show of the season I think.
If you like watching possibly the biggest bunch of harmless weirdos imaginable dress up in superhero costumes and perform stupid tasks trying not to be eliminated by Stan Lee, then this is the show for you.
I was having trouble deciding which was funnier - superhero 'Fat Momma', a large black woman who got extra strong by eating doughnuts, or Nitro G, a comic book nerd who interpreted Stan's instructions of "get changed where no one can see you so you don't reveal your secret identity!" by getting changed in the middle of a park. And then "Major Victory" did his thing, and I fell in superhero love. An ex male stripper, he runs along doing kinda disco dance moves, pointing both fingers at people. On youtube, for compulsory viewing:
Last night's test involved getting changed, and running very fast to a finish line. But there was a hidden test - a girl crying near the finish line! Superheroes who stopped and helped the girl passed, those who ran right past her faced elimination. The superheroes also got introduced to their 'secret lair', and the look of joy on their faces...
People this engrossed in being a superhero make wonderfully bad TV.

Speaking of which, did Fiona and Russell take the boys to Armageddon - and what sneaky super-powered ninja tricks did they pull to gain dominion over the Parental Credit Card of Joy? :)
-
Do you know what's awesome? I'll tell you.
There's a new American TV series called the Next Great American Band. It's kind of a cross between Idol and Rockstar - it's bands competing for the prize, not individuals.
This in itself is, like, totally awesome, but it gets even more awesomer: it's hosted by Dominic Bowden.
I think this has set a world reckon for televisual awesomeness.

No – sigh – Hex is new; the "return" box was another mistake by our listings service in Australia whose name I will not mention. We do read the pages at the Listener (we have to), but we don't always pick up everything as the pages are printed out in b&w and it's difficult to tell what colour the little boxes are.

Russell did the honours this year, I couldn't quite face it, largely because it's the same every year and the kids don't want to see the panel guests and I do. Also, it's not like you're going to get a bargain – one stallholder even had a sign saying "make me an offer" and when number two son did exactly that, wouldn't negotiate. wtf?
Have updated PA post with Letterman guests, btw, and as I started the post on Monday, didn't mention The Line of Beauty which is screening Sunday nights late on TV1. It's an Andrew Davies adaptation of the Allan Hollinghurst novel about being gay in the 80s. (Yes, the Listener left out the "The" in the title, I did ask the listings service that shall not be named to change it, but they neglected to do so.) Here's a review from Variety.

3410,
Hex has played before (series 1, I presume), on TV2 at about 1.00am on a weeknight.

Nurse, we need a thesaurus in here, stat! Set it to superlative, and add 20MG of hyperbole.
