Duncan's a smart guy, he knows all this already, he's just going to "get" Hone because he's like that with people who end up on his naughty list.

Hone Harawira's promise to resign and force a by-election early this week has hit a hitch. Yesterday he said he would let the folks "back home" decide the "the where, the when, the how". If he wants to come back as leader of the Mana Party, and get $50,000-plus extra funding, it must be registered before polling day, or he will run as an independent. He may want more time to get 500 members and register the party, but he has to trigger the by-election by May 26 – more than six months before the general election – or Parliament can choose not to hold it.

Well, that motivated me to fill in and mail the form.

The Financial Transaction Tax touted by the Mana Party was originally adapted by Kelvyn Alp for the party DDP in 2004 for the 2005 General Elections. (And he has proof of this) He has carried that policy into the OURNZ Party (going through formal registration).

Kelvyn approached Hone Harawira via Hone’s relations seeking to unite minor parties with similar aims. Hone asked for 1) the OURNZ Party policies (available at http://www.ournz.net/) to see if there were areas of agreement and 2) Mike Tamaki to call him. This was done and contact ceased.

His application of the Transaction Tax is inappropriate and will raise prices.

The original policy: Taxation rates are too high, meaning that companies are at a disadvantage when competing for foreign investment, business on the world stage and for real growth.

The solution is a 1% Transaction Tax on all outgoing financial transactions. The tax will replace ALL other taxes including many “hidden” taxes. Software programmed into RBNZ’s electronic clearing system will state daily transactions of the banking system, meaning implementation will be simple. Calculated on total transacted amount per annum, a tax of 1% will provide the Government with sufficient operating revenue.

Some think it would negatively affect the economy. This is a false notion and it will have a beneficial effect on the economy through being able to tax money that is now untaxed. This solution will bring prosperity, increases in employment and less dependence on the State.

Money was intended to distribute goods and services at an agreed value. Money was never meant to be a commodity. The solution is not to tax the real wealth of this country (labour, resources, business etc), but rather to tax how wealth is distributed. With no income tax, nor GST to pay, everybody will effectively have a pay rise.

I think you'll find that such a transaction tax was first suggested in 1972 by James Tobin.

I think you will find they are not the same.

Your link to that registration form? Error code 509? I suppose that could be one way to make things difficult for registration.

Whoever set up the website for The Mana Party has made a silly mistake.
If you want to get the numbers you need the bandwidth and having limited bandwidth leaves you wide open for a denial of service attack.

The Hoisting service "Web Drive Limited" states As a general guide we do not permit high-volume sites and appears to have a "cutoff" at 150 gb for national bandwidth and a meer 10 gb for international. This means that an ill wishing user could kill the site from Australia with a very limited attack.

Bizarre twist to that last post..
Today, whilst driving up north I pulled off the main drag looking for a BP station, cos I had 25c off coupon from New World and found myself in a part of Whangarei that I had never been to before. I found a gas station on the road to the “Heads” and started to “fill ’er up”. Whist I was there I thought I’d fill a gas cylinder that I was taking up for the batch. Well all kinds of things went awry with the cylinder fill and as I waited who should pull up right in front of me but Hone himself. I told him about the website and he said “say no more” or words to that effect, pulled out his phone, made a call and handed me the phone saying “there you go, sort it out”.
So I did and he was most appreciative.
