and places near the sea/water.
Probably not such good advice any more.
I have to fight the desire to drive up country and spray paint ATLANTIS over the Omaha signs.
(Johnnie boy will have soon sold up to some dope who thinks they are onto a winning historic property) -
"And there goes my rates bill up 10%."
Being in a "skyrocket" suburb I hope mine doesn't increase by more. Over the years we have been punished for being next to a "good school" zone.

Prosperity, maybe but part of the establishment, be dammed.
I was recently mildly shocked to discover that La-Z-Boys are something of a cult item with people around a decade younger than me.

True Bro. Next thing you know is they've built an extension and a deck on the house in Point Chev, got their own TV show and are complaining about a rates increase.
Jeez, they'll be shouting at kids to get off their damned lawn next and telling everybody that will listen that the neighbourhood is going to the dogs.

yeah La Z says it all. That's actually just bad taste :) Didn't their parents teach them anything? That chair has got to be up there as the ugliest of ugliest for all time.

As I said upthread, David is retiring next year and we’re looking very seriously at quitting Auckland entirely. But wherever we go, a very serious question is going to be reasonable access to health and social services, and with a serious drop in income (and the fact I can’t drive at night) being close in or close to reliable public transport matters.
Not everyone requires or desires some suburban McMansion with a giant lawn, no matter how much the usual (and far from disinterested) suspects would like you to believe otherwise.
Wellington's apartment market doesn't look too shabby at the moment. It'd personally be my thing once I manage to change to a career that's not in danger of obsolescence.
-
Have to be careful in the apartment market in Wellington though. Friends bought for retirement living, only to find that post Christchurch earthquake the insurance costs are so high they can't afford to live in it any more. Plus you have to look out for whether the council's assessed the building as needing seismic upgrade.

For me La-Z-Boy is inextricably tied to the terminal uncoolness of Rob's mob and NZ the way they wanted it. Turn on the TV back in 1978 and it was wall to wall ads for Fiji cruises and those goddam things.
While awaiting a minor procedure on my vertebrae a while back my doc asked if I owned a La-Z-Boy, as it would help with sleeping upright. To my shame I realised that I was probably too cool for my own good. So when someone younger than I, whose coolness is writ large via their contribution to the life-enhancing arts, scored one of those horrors off TradeMe for similarly therapeutic reasons, prompting a bunch of social media posts from a hitherto unknown underground of aficionados, even I have to admit that the Cascade rocker version isn't too aesthetically on the nose.
