Giovanni, you go up even more in my estimation.
Whatever the attribution It still sounds like a Harry Potter spell, as some astute Potterphile noted upthread.
-
Ever so slight diversion here. For Islander. Did you happen to see the doco on Maori TV about JC Sturm? What a glorious woman. I had heard of her, but have never read any of her stuff. What would you recommend I start with?
-
Top of my list would be something to indicate which comments have and haven't been read - I've sometimes given up on longer, fast moving, threads because I just can't figure out where I'm up to.
No to threading but a way to directly reply to posts and maybe to notify people when they have been directly replied to would be good.

Rich - exchange's "recall" only works with other exchange servers, the rest of us get the original email and a second one recalling it .... which of course makes us all run and read the original email to see why it was recalled ....

3410,
One thing though, I keep being logged out of PAS after a few minutes of not posting. Doesn't happen in other sites. Is that a feature or a bug?
Tick the box below login that says "Stay logged on to this computer?"

Jackie - Jackie Sturm is a wonderful writer - and woman. Yer best kind of librarian, and sharp as-
Spiral collective #5 (Iri Ramsden, Marian Evans, and Miriama Evans) was formed to publish 3 books. among them an excellent collection of short stories entitled "The House of the Talking Cat", by J. C. Sturm. Jackie had had a problem with getting the collection published - some publishers then being crude enough to imply her husband might've had a hand in the stories...this rudeness to the first Maori writer to have short stories published in English!
I'd recommend starting with that book, and then moving on to the poetry collections...rich life-enhancing work, with veins of wry - even tart - humour. Must trundle upstairs and reread my copies...
O, and while I missed seeing the documentary, one of the whanau taped it. A future joy-

3410, I have the same problem, and I have ticked that box *many* times. Means diddlysquat to this computer (a recent iMac running Leopard 5.6 which I've come to hate she says, digging the thing sharply in its etheric innards.)
-
Another Spiral author also featured on our screens this week for a few minutes as part of C4's Top 100 Pop Culture moments in NZ history show.
-
Why, yes she did. You are very right, Sacha.
-
The third book that Spiral 5 published was "A Figurehead: A Face" by Heather McPherson. All 3 books had been rejected several times by mainstream publishers.

I should've realised it wouldn't be quite that easy. :)

I have long had the same problem with log in, apparently something to do with the history memory cache?
These are just words and don't really mean anything to me but I do note that I don't have this problem on other sites
I, as others have noted would like to see the author's name at the top
I know who writes "Hard News" but some of the others slip my mindOther than that I love the way it all flows so well and the sense of community. There are only a couple of blogs I enjoy more

Oh and a spell checker would be kind of nice for us dislectics
-
@Raymond -- firefox has a built in spellchecker (makes more sense than doing it on the Public Address Server). I assume other browsers have similar offering. Either make sure you download the EN_GB (English Great Britain version), or you can get an Australian dictionary to add-in.

Kong,
Isabel

That one's easy: Address them by name as the first thing in your post. If necessary, quote a snippet of what it is you're replying to. It's a good habit anyway, for disambiguation, and other-reader convenience.

dislectics is underlined in red right now in my post window. Spell checking is a browser setting, at least in Firefox.
LOL James, plugging GB English. Much tho I disagree with American Imperialism, I think they have the best spelling. Mind you, I suppose for consistency, 'browser' should be underlined, and 'browzer' should be suggested :(~

I have just spent a good while trying to find out when and where I can hear Public Address Radio. No help from this site at all apart from being able to hear some extracts from earlier programmes.
So please, in the upgrade could you tell us when and where it is aired and provide a link. I have no idea where Radio Live is on the dial - this is a Radio NZ house, and I strenuously avoid radio with ads - but I see you can listen live through the Radio Live site.
By the way, does Craig tone down for radio?
-
BTW it's on 7-8 on Sunday nights.
-
Spell checkers do not recognise the simplest Maori words - or any other language except varieties of English I suspect. I disable any spellchecker I find on my machine-
-
All the spellcheckers I've encountered are monolingual and that's just wrong. I'd love it if they were able to accommodate more than one language at any one time, for reasons of obviousness.

I do that. I even do that on sites where you reply to individual posts rather than the whole thread. What I mean is having a way of indicating that a thread contains a reply to something I've posted so I don't commit the inadvertent discourtesy of failing to respond where I should.

Hilary,
Yes, Craig does tone down for radio. Local frequencies for RadioLive are listed on their website http://www.radiolive.co.nz/. For example Wellington is 98.7FM and 1233AM. Can also listen online to their audio on demand option (for the previous 7 days).

Dunno what life is like in Microsoft country -- I was never fully naturalised there and left for the last time years ago -- but in the computing land of the free, I just install dictionaries for whatever language I like, and when I'm composing email (using Evolution) I tell it what language I'd like it to use when checking spelling. There's a bunch of checkboxes and I can ask it to check several languages. I use this all the time when composing messages to Brazilians in my pidgin Portuguese.
I don't know of a suitable packaged Māori dictionary available right now, but I for one would be interested in helping create one. If you know where a suitable lexicon is to be had, unencumbered by copyright, let me know.

Stephen Judd - great news!
Ngata dictionary- and if that isnt free-but-for-acknowledgment, Kia Tahu would work on't- cheers! -
A friend has just alerted me to Te Papakupu Māori, which is a plugin for Thunderbird and Firefox. It's not tested enough to be part of the main FF distribution yet, so if anyone at PAS were to download and have a play with it AND submit bug reports, that would be a great thing.

O sweet! Will play with this apopo and let everyone interested know-
