If there were prizes for outstanding drum work on a NZ record, Headband's "The laws must change "would surely be on the podium. No clip on youtube unfortunately, but in light of JK's comments about drug laws and policing earlier this week, it seems particularly apt.
Sadly we lost vibes master Bobby Hutcherson this week - heres part one of Gilles Peterson's tribute mix (there is a part two as well):

And its been 25 years since Cypress Hills self tiltled album came out. I can remember sitting in 7th form English class playing 'I wannna get high" (off cassette), and funnily enough, also remember the concert at the North Shore Events Center (yes, a very odd venue choice) in 1994, which featured Ice Cube and clouds of pungent smoke. Theres an XL T shirt from that one still in the cupboard, noting I mainly wear mediums these days. Enjoy. -
PA readers of a certain age might enjoy this story by Charlie Gates in the Press about the time The Fall ("the mighty Fall") played Christchurch in 1982, and somehow found themselves on the front page of the paper. That photo of "happy Fall guitarist" Marc Riley was on the cover of Flying Nun's Fall in a Hole and so on. It's all legendary now. I think there's an entire chapter in the Roger Shepherd book.
The bit I love is the detail from Bruce Russell about some friends spraypainting "bang fucking bang, the mighty Fall are coming" on a billboard in Chch. I wonder if anyone took a pic?

I've always thought that Golden Harvest's seductive "I Need Your Love" would just need the lightest remix to sound like a cool track of 2016.

Musically, for sure -- but those lyrics go beyond cheese into some other animal product entirely. Rhyming "today" with "see"!? *shudder*

come on, "the trouble is you're so tall" is one of the great Kiwi short-arse lyrics.

I’m not all that big on the song frankly but if people really want a groove marked out in highlighter for them they could do worse than this .

Fatigue got very much the better of me last night and I missed Shayne Carter’s show at the Tuning Fork
If your schedule fits you may be able to catch SPC at Blue Smoke the night before your own 'gig' with Roger Shepherd and FN luminaries at same venue
BTW shortly thereafter, there's this across town a bit at C1 - The Spinoff After Dark - the Spinoff crew and Steve Braunias ...'with a selection of the best-looking guests from the festival' - Russell, that must include you!
And I thought I'd slip in these, from Aldous Harding, recent recordings in France. This one, in a bathroom - Sweet Does The Skull
The uploader is the ironically titled Le Bruit des Graviers (The Sound of Gravel). For francophiles, there's a bit more here. And also this, The World I Looking For You
...and one of my favs, What if Birds Aren't Singing, They're Screaming

That Fall article is really good...how different the world could have been if Craig Scanlon had instead been that 'Happy Fall Guitarist'! He did last in the band a good I still remember him cranking out the opening notes for Impression of J temperance at the Ballroom. Magic.
BTW there's no Karl Burns in the extra pics. He may have been on a later flight, something about losing a passport...but he certainly made it in time as played the Ballroom and Town Hall gigs - second drummer and a bit of guitar.
J Temperance it is, from the Mainstreet set 1982

The Fall photos in the Press are now linked in on the The Fall online.
What I note on that same page is that in answer to a fan's question earlier this year Where's the wife?, keyboardist/singer Elena Poulou has left the The Fall.
MES says: "She's resigned. She was very frustrated with it. She's got a very German head on her and sometimes you've got to look at it objectively."
Bremen, gute Nacht!

Not formally. But I have promised to heckle from the cheap seats :-)

I’m consoling myself with this awesome 2012 live recording of ‘Seed’ that Shayne posted recently
It’s fucking great ain’t it – just played it again now, ‘one louder’, in all its improvisational glory for the benefit of the neighbours! I was reminded of the Shayne and Wayne of old, From Andrew Schmidt at Audioculture:
Dunedin’s The Stones were masters of the telling one-liner. “We want to be God,” guitarist Wayne Elsey told the indie masses at Punakaiki festival near Greymouth in April 1983, before chopping out “a stunning version of ‘Fad World’, crammed with guitar improvisation.
Well, not Shayne on this occasion – though he was also the master of the telling one-liner – but Wayne’s Fad World was very much in the same vein as Seed. I don’t think that (15 min) live version was recorded. There’s a little more about it on Rob Mayes’ Failsafe pages.
Oh, and an acoustic version of Seed which doubles as a guitar lesson!
