  • James Green,

The computer was turned on circa 6.45am and the message (You were the only one who deserved to stay) left on screen. Both defense and prosecution have argued about the timing since David was finishing his paper round circa 6.45am

what i've never understood about this line of "evidence" is that it is not hard to change the CMOS settings on a computer to jerry whatever time the machine "thinks" it was when it did something, without leaving a trace of the time adjustment.

From the Lords report "Mr Cox was not wearing a watch. He therefore relied on the timings provided by DC Anderson’s watch. The constable’s watch, having no second hand and no divisions marked between the five minute intervals, was not a very suitable one for making exact measurements. It moreover appeared that it had at the relevant time been 2 minutes fast."

The Lords don't consider it a large point, but they do agree that the timing is rather unreliable (and definitely could have been earlier).

Great to see David Bain has been doing work for government development programmes while in prison . Had a look at some of his work today - great stuff . Funny ole world - eh .

  • Linda Axford,

Speaking of chicken revenge: Egg In Face! Idour's credibility is looking very sad indeed.

And if you want a chuckle, head over to Wishart's blog and read about "the breach of broadcasting standards goes far beyond anything any New Zealand Prime Minister has ever done before."

  • Craig Ranapia,

    Yikes.

Hum... I think it may be time for Commissioner Broad to send out a STFU memo - c.c.'d to Annette King - suggesting any information on the Investigate story be sent to the PCA not the Minister's in-box. Pretty hard to come away from that linked story with any respect for any party involved. Not looking forward to the PCA's report, somehow.

  • Don Christie,

See this is what I don't quite get about your posts, Craig. On the one hand you express disgust and indignation about the likes of Wishart but when those attacked try to defend themselves you say they should STFU and not get into the sewer, as if somehow they are Wishart's equivalents. And then there are those that say unless the attacked defend themselves - by suing - they must be guilty.

Kind of no win situation of you are one of Wishart's victims.

On another tack I found myself agreeing with Rosemary McLeod for just about the first time.

    Money quote:

Sometimes those bad things can seem overwhelming on a personal level, but they don't make the world itself a bad place. As a country it seems to me as if we've lost our bearings. We don't seem to place as high a value on the common good, as we do on trashing each other, and in a country this small that's dangerous.

Who are the shadowy people who make claims against prominent people, and why do we always listen to them? Are their motives examined? Why aren't they named? Who'll be next? Is this how we want to live? Is this what we value?

The point is that finding "bad cops" is surely not all that hard. They work with bad people all their lives and it can come as no surprise that some get warped. Weeding those guys out is obviously important and something this government seems to be rather keen on.

But turning that process into the equivalent of a splatter flick and trying to take out as many good people you have a grudge against is something different.

McLeod has a special reason to think poorly of Idour. He was one of three ex-cops who scored a $780,000 defamation award as a consequence of one of her columns.

    Christ

All three gave evidence as expert witnesses at the depositions hearing for a private murder prosecution against Mr Abbott

That was good of them. Seems to be a track record building up here. No doubt all in the name of justice and righteousness.

I wonder if McLeod will be looking for her money back?

Still, it does not detract from what she wrote today.

Actually, I agree with Craig (a trend which is becoming increasingly unsettling) - I think the ministers would benefit from distancing themselves from the mudslinging as much as possible, instead of lashing back with such tacky retorts as "who's giving him money anyway?".

I think everyone should know what a little piece of trash this Idour is, but the politicians should leave the tabloid journalism to the...errr..tabloid journalists. The PM & co could easily have just issued a nothing press release, quietly forwarded on any info to the relevant parties, then sat back and left Wishart to choke himself on his own shoddy work.

...if it hadn't also led the news on both networks* and graced the front pages of all the major papers*.
(*Not that I've checked this- I'll get my team of crack researchers onto it, as soon as I get to run a major media outlet.)

The usual, broad allegations, (sorry), lots of puffing and dire hints of more, but no facts or corroboration. The mixture as before.

    Craig said on Kiwiblog,

And oddly enough, I've never had a comment on PA System - or my contribution to PA Radio - censored at the behest of Wussell Brown, Apparatchik of the Liarbore Dykeocracy. (In fact, there seem to be some folks who think my filthy right-wing views don't get censored enough. Weird.)

Really Craig, now who may the folks calling for your censorship be?

It's irony, but I guess you might have to be familiar with my past adventures with wingers in the Kiwiblog forums to get it. No need to be offended on my behalf, honestly.

I can't be arsed reading it all, but I gather Craig is getting the bash at Kiwiblog for hanging out with dirty lefties ...

Shot by both sides. Which explains most of C's prickly tone. He's valued here for a balance of opinion and prose that can sing and put-downs that zing.
But under attack he tends to get cryptic and use multi-levels of irony that are very hard to read.

There is a point in time by which we should move on and I'm glad Annette King has drawn a line in the sand here. After an indepth report into the dirty dark 80s is as good as any and better than most. Fund raiser with old rugby movies - does anyone believe that? That was then and this is now.
Is Annett King proposing a statute of limitations be introduced into NZ law?

You're kind, Rob. I'm sure it wouldn't detract from Craig's pithiness to employ a similar generosity of spiri.

Ngggg. Can I point out that Craig hasn't said a word to Merc on this thread for two days, since well before page 15 where Merc wrote three do-you-want-a-fight posts. And then Merc's back this afternoon trying to rev it up again over something Craig said on another blog. Please, mate, I value your presence a lot, but just chill.

I've asked Craig to tone it down, now I'm asking Merc. You've expressed a grievance against me that you're welcome to take up by email, but please don't keep trying to relitigate it here.

Afterthought: Agghh ... that probably sounds too snippy, but in the end I did have to go back through every page of the thread and that probably made me grumpy in itself. As usual, it'll probably piss some people off, but I read it all back again and, on balance, I didn't think it was Craig who'd been provocative. Independent of that, this kind of thing only works well when people assume goodwill. That's important.

OK, they were not "do you want to fight" posts, I considered I was being censored in a hostile way by Craig, and I posted the quote from another thread because I think Craig was referring to being censored himself and I wondered by whom, thas all.
I don't have a grievance against you RB, but I do wonder why you think I have.

See above, plus afterthought. I don't think you were being censored, I thought you were being disagreed with.

I don't have a grievance against you RB, but I do wonder why you think I have.

Because you keep mentioning me in your posts about the dispute, and you wouldn't let me even have an opinion without declaring it a "Craig defence", which I thought was really unnecessary. Please, email me and let's sort it out.
