  • Kadife Blue,

but I found all the merc and Ridley spam much more annoying.

here was me thinking that PA was a nice, big, happy family blog that although having a few ructions now and then generally was an enjoyable place to chat about politics or complete bollox (as the fabulous rambling creation of mercproductions was).

I don't like this new tone that is creeping in. Who cares if merc and riddley liked to enjoy each others ramblings. I, and seemingly several others, enjoyed their witty comments and found them a welcome relief from some of the heated debate.

I would also agree with Don It's worth re-thinking how you perceive folk you disagree with online
Sometimes people can get overly offended by attacks on their comments but I also think that is because people have gotten used to being supported and valued on PA. I for one would hate to see that change.

I value Craig as a differing voice on PA. I don't think he should be so quick to turn defensive but that is hardly surprising being the only righty brave enough to frequently enter into constructive debate here. But I also am appalled to see people turn on m and r who I definitely value as making PA worthwhile.

  • Josh Addison,

...generally was an enjoyable place to chat about politics or complete bollox (as the fabulous rambling creation of mercproductions was).

I thought it was a place to chat about the topic at hand (as defined by the blog post each thread is commenting on), not whatever you feel like -- that's what your own blog is for. A bit of arsing around is always fun, but when a thread gets utterly derailed by page after page of witty rejoinders (as happened to that one of Damian's) -- well, that's not what I'm here for. I personally find that sort of thing distracting and self-indulgent; other people seem to like it. Vive la difference, I guess -- the failure to agree to disagree seems to have been behind most of the spats here recently.

(In the past I've not bothered to say anything, because I figure that complaining about a thread being derailed only derails it further, but this one seems pretty knackered already...)

  • Nobody Important,

it's just that there are times that it gets tedious to me and interesting threads get subsumed by the volume.

    Ditto.

I know I'm just a newbie but can I call "time" on this thread, ask you all to finish your drinks, and f#ck off home to your wives and kids?

(I'd call Theatre but that only seems to encourage another three pages of debate over whether 'Theatre' was a fair call)

  • Hadyn Green,

    "LAST!"

And so it came to pass, in the year of Lord 2007, that Riddley and Merc and Craig (and with any luck Deb) did mend their differences and cross the divides which had split the system unsunder. And on that day there was a great rejoicing and feasting.

And Russell, whose holy keyboard did descend from the very ROFLCOPTER of teh internets gods, made everything clean again with a post full of YouTube videos of kittens.

And the cry went up amongst the gathered commentors "THEATRE!" for this was a grand and glorious show. And from that moment all was well once more in the Public Address.

    Selah.
