  • Hebe, in reply to Sofie Bribiesca,

This baby showed up last month.

    Nice.

Dinner preparation - a handful of puha awaits addition to the steaming silverbeet to spice it up a little.

Spring statue at the Wintergarden. She's a bit stern looking for Spring. Bags under her eyes suggest possibility of hayfever.

Early signs of an impending change of season?

I just liked the way the sunlight filtered through here. I really needed my real camera instead of just the phone, but I almost captured it.

    And a poor abandoned monkey.

A fistful of spring. Daffodils plus blackcurrant flowers for their amazing scent.

Lovely weekend in Christchurch. Walked through Hagley park today.

    Poppies.

    Bluebells?

    Star magnolia.

    Another hellibore after rain today

    That’s a ripper.

    Can almost smell them.

Another poppy. A bit of redux from last year's spring post, but you know, it's all about the purrty flowers...

Yes -- is the bluebell wood in flower?

Um, M just told me she thought they were blue hyacinths. I’m confused now.

The bluebell wood sounds good though, but I think we missed it.

  • Hebe, in reply to JacksonP,

The bluebell wood is by Carlton Corner of Hagley Park, tucked under the trees on the Fendalton fringe. It’s one of the city’s quiet treasures, and the smell is glorious. I was surprised it was in flower so early, though I haven’t been down that way last week. Hyacinths are probably right for that pic. I shall try to get to the bluebells when they flower. The daffodils in the gardens by the hospital are coming out now, so I will combine that with a hospital visit.

I walked under one of these on my way home tonight. Looking up I could see both stellata and the starry sky. :-)

One for the 94th anniversary of the May 4th Movement – a kinda spring-like event in it’s own way.

    And 4 days later.

I know early May is a bit late for spring, but it’s not quite summer either this far north. So, a month and a day earlier.

This little fellow popped his head up out of our black soil two weeks ago, but is now being joined (see a pink tip emerging?) by quite a few more. Not yet a feast, but certainly a taste of things to come.

NZ's warmest-ever winter is having an impact.

And tui one. Took many attempts to get this particular photo. I shudder to think quite how much time I have spent fluffing around photographing the tui in the campanulata cherries.
