I've been hearing radio ads for a Viagra© substitute
called Niagara© (the joys of having subcontractors about the house
    - plus the sounds of the '60s, '70s & '80s)
    It always makes me think
    "But... Niagara falls!"

Today we went to the ceremonies to honour the legendary Duke Kahanamoku who 100 years ago at New Brighton showed Kiwis how to surf. February 24, 1915, The Duke was on his board at Brighton, and today crowds of surfers, the Duke’s relatives, the Mayor, Sir Tipene O’Regan, and MP Poto Williams all gathered to celebrate the man and the deeper cultural links with Hawaii.

It was one of the most connected times I have experienced at Brighton: everyone united by the common love of the Pacific Ocean.

(Soz about the quality: didn’t even think of taking pix so didn’t take the big camera.)

Boards lined up while the ceremony continues in the amphitheatre, then they paddle out to form a circle (zoom in).

Hebe, quality’s fine, love the surfboards and that ocean.

Nora, cool lanterns. Seems I’ll miss them by only a couple of days this year, though the festival proper is not till March 5. Leave Hong Kong tomorrow…

Hi Chris. Afraid I'm a bit slow on the uptake lately. Welcome home to you, and your family. Hoping it's treating you well so far.

We're on the move too soon, but just half way round the block, not half way round the world.

No, I certainly don't remember it, but back then I spent a lot more time along the river bank than on the playground. Much more fun, roaming all the way down to the river mouth and back.
