I used to have a family of very tall pitcher plants, which were so elegant it was easy to forget what went on inside! This is the stem of one of them. They were given to me by someone who bought them for their looks and then found them too creepy. :-)
ETA: carnivorous plants get way creepier, though: there’s one that lives underwater that captures its prey by emptying a water-filled reservoir inside its body which causes the prey to be sucked in. Slurp!!

I think I must have carnivorous pants...
but oddly, the fly is undone before the water bladder is emptied!
(especially after ingesting sweet infusions of malt and grain)
