taken through plants in a hurry, at a distance, with the camera on burst mode
I LIKE 'em : ) Candid, a bit abstract, and maybe even a bit Parrot Paparazzi!

You should probably contact the NZ Ornithological Society (http://osnz.org.nz/contact-us/regional-recorders) then, just for the record, as a 1950s sighting of koreke would be like seeing a live huia in 1982, or a Laughing Owl today. In fact because NZ quail disappeared so quickly it's even more amazing that a breeding population were able to hang on, undetected by ornithologists for at least 75 years, in a place as well-explored as Canterbury. So it would be good to get a record of the details into print.

I suspect there was a thumb print on the slide
Nice pic of a lovely little fella. BTW those 'thumbprint' lines look too clean and parallel. A kind of moire pattern created by aviary mesh perhaps?

Could be. the reason I thumb (or for that matter palm) is that it is only across part of the picture.
-
That's cool David.
Since you're here, hopefully you have received the print by now?
-
I did indeed, and have been showing it off to all and sundry.

A scan of one of my father’s slides
Great shot David. You seem to have a real treasure trove there.

I have 2100 slides (17Gb) scanned, and estimate I am about a third of the way through the slide collection. As my brother Lyndon will probably understand, if there is ever a need for a scenic shot of Central Otago, a native orchid, or a giant native land snail, I have an embarrassment of riches to choose from.

The pictures you've posted from your dad's slides are beautiful, are they all as lovely?

There are a lot that are very nice, but not all.
for those that have been following my scanning, I am looking at using exiftool and some scripting to bulk add information to the picture metadata, so it is part of the picture. -
When I was young, we used to going camping in Fiordland in alternate years. We had the Cassette tape "Children of Tane : New Zealand birds of the forest" by Radio New Zealand, and playing the robin call would reliably bring the local native robin in close trying to work out where the trespasser was.

Kia ora Mick - info taken aboard.
I need to get consent of the land-owner (who is a cousin) before giving details.
He's 15years older than me, but still *very* protective of his farm, and what it harbours.... -
