Yes its now called the Homai Vision Education Center.

    It sounds phony.

I much prefer Homai Blind School which is what it was originally called for a very long time. I'm sure donations were more forthcoming when it was called that.

I'm sure if Key called Goff a retard or vice versa it would be considered "all fun & games". No real harm done . Whereas Paul Henrys use of the word had some personal private information attached to its use & he was wrong to use it in that way.

  • Hard News: Not in front of the children,

I think the use of the word retarded is fine but retard is derogatory . Like any word if it is used in the nasty manner that Paul Henry subscribed too it isn't acceptable.

I remember when the Black Eyed Peas had a hit with the song "Lets get retarded in here" they were forced to bring out a PC sanitized version called 'Lets get it started ". Still prefer the original.

Purposely i will not donate to the blind foundation because they changed their name to something like "Vision Education center" . So they don't need my donation i guess.Though i think they may have changed the name back, so maybe i'll reconsider.

They have a PC term for baldness too its called "comb free".

  • Speaker: The system's pretty good, the…,

I'm from the old school of thought & know in many cases obesity is down to a lack of self discipline .Over eating , a lack of will power ..If we keep blaming everything else except ourselves all we become is a brain washed society that says " its everyone elses fault that im fat".
I try & exercise about 2 to 3 times weekly , jogging mostly: like Peter i enjoy it because i feel good after it.
My local neighbor is an overweight Pom & a big drinker . His immigration visa status is seriously under threat, all to do with liver problems indicated from his medical results. He has been given an ultimatum to lose weight & have another medical test done in 4 weeks time. His whole family , wife & 2 kids are here as well . There future in NZ is totally determined on whether Immigration will allow him an extension on his work visa.I tried to help him by suggesting an exercise pattern & giving up the booze. I offered to go jogging around a local reserve with him. He was all keen & committed to come the next day . But he never showed up, he just can't be bothered to do the right thing for himself & his family.
So who can he blame for his condition ? Only himself.
Gareth Morgans article seems to point to the fact that the NZ health system will become broke by the epidemic obesity problem we have if it keeps escalating.Too many people are waiting for a magic pill or have resigned themselves to a stomach stapling operation.
The key word here is moderation.

  • Hard News: The March for Democracy,

In the Swiss case i got it wrong about the minarets being used to broadcast prayers 5 times a day. Sorry folks.

If they're not being used for broadcast purposes then i think RB is right about the posters being outlandish , depicting the minarets as missiles .

  • Dave Dobbyn,

If "Bliss" isn't on the new cd ,it shouldn't have featured in your radio segment. A little bit of false advertising there, perhaps not deliberately though.

  • Dave Dobbyn,

In the actual transcript he says "If its a Maori prayer it would stay but because its a Christian prayer i would chuck it out", so that doesn't concur with what you say.Its not actually the Lords Prayer that is used as the Parliamentary prayer , but it still is a good prayer .And why have it in Maori? Is he suggesting we should all learn Maori?

Politics & religion aside , much as i like some of his songs i am very disappointed in the 2009 versions of "Whaling" ," Outlook for Thursday" & "Devil you know" ,as presented on this cd. The originals are much much better!!!!!!!!

After the horrible version of the classic " Be mine tonight" which he released on his other greatest hits "Overnight success" a few years back i would have thought his fan base would have told him not to go messing around with the originals . That is after all what folks want to listen too!Their is no comparison .

  • Hard News: The March for Democracy,

I disagree R.B, with your stance on Minarets. Are you saying you'd tolerate having one in your neighborhood? They are used for heralding Muslims to prayer , 5 times a day,via an amplified sound system, i might add , very loudly .
Unlike the NZ government the Swiss Govt actually listened to the voters in the referendum they had on the Minaret issue. 57% voted against them.
Now lets also put your population figure of 400,000 unhappySwiss Muslims on the Minaret ruling into PERSPECTIVE [Something SEVERELY lacking at PAS] It represents only 4% of the Swiss population. So once again you're on a diatribe of "lets appeal to a minority & stuff the majority, they can put up with unwanted noise" 5 times daily".

  • Hard News: A Strange Surprise,

Yep. Chop it off, get a new jack from Dick Smith for ... $5.95?, solder it on (make sure you get your left / right correct.)

If that sounds like more trouble than it's worth, any repair place will be able to do that for peanuts. [quote]

Ehmm what repair place will do it for "peanuts"?
Standard minimum charge is often as high as $70.
