  • Hard News: Deja Vu,

I'm just a bit perplexed as to where Murray McCully stays when he's he's visiting his Albany electorate, given that his main home is 150km away. Do we put him up in a hotel?

If the expense disclosures for the first 6 months of this year are correct he hasn't been to Albany this year (unless it's under another budget or he paid/flew himself). It only lists $6000 for Wellington accommodation and $112 for surface travel.

    Sacha,

Good on Heather Roy, Chris Finlayson and Peter Dunne for not renting out their Wellington houses and getting the rest of us to shout them another one. Not that I want either families being split up or all our representatives living in Welli and further isolating them from the rest of the whenua.

Those three already lived in a Wellington electorate. So couldn't claim an out-of-Wellington allowance (there will be other housing stuff no doubt). Though from this Scoop item of 2005 this discussion is nothing new.

Former Agriculture Minister Jim Sutton did not decide to resign voluntarily, he was pushed. His crime? Firstly for having the biggest swing against him and secondly for announcing that he had bought a house in Waikanae and was going to stand for the Wellington Labour list next election. Sutton was valuable while he was a rural voice but the party had no need for yet another MP who wants to live just the distance needed to qualify for the Wellington housing allowance.

  • Hard News: Deja Vu,

    Sofie,

Finlayson, Roy and Dunne already lived in Wellington so would not be eligible for the 'living away from home' housing allowance or expenses.

  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

So please, in the upgrade could you tell us when and where it is aired and provide a link. I have no idea where Radio Live is on the dial - this is a Radio NZ house, and I strenuously avoid radio with ads - but I see you can listen live through the Radio Live site.

By the way, does Craig tone down for radio?

    Hilary,

Yes, Craig does tone down for radio. Local frequencies for RadioLive are listed on their website http://www.radiolive.co.nz/. For example Wellington is 98.7FM and 1233AM. Can also listen online to their audio on demand option (for the previous 7 days).

  • Quake,

There also seemed to be an idea that the tsunami report issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii somehow meant that a tsunami was going to hit Hawaii.

Robyn, one of the advisory reports was actually for Hawaii itself. Since earthquake/tsunami effects are mostly guesswork worst case scenario would be first response.

Fuss increased after reports of studies that folic acid might increase rates of prostate and other cancers. Bakers possibly didn't want to be accountable (morally or legally) if cancers could be related to their product.

Current Government advice is based on latest study showing no increased risk.

Rumours are organic bread and homemade stuff not to be included.
