  • Southerly: Sunstroke in Scotland,

Liked Edinburgh even though it pissed down with rain when were there last summer, your post tipped the balance on going back there on a fine day

Glasgow less so, something to do with Great great granddad getting a one way ticket to Australia in 1790 from the Tollbooth which the scotch buggers have knocked down since, no sense of history

Loved the Georgian buildings in both cities that they are cleaning up and then there was Cullen Slink in the pub while we waited for the rain to ease

  • Hard News: On Telly, Telly Off,

Poor old Tim, we seem to have had digital in the South Island for ever, I certainly didn't hear of any old folks/fogeys not getting their fix because they were not up to speed with the new technology

  • Hard News: Being Jim, in reply to Russell Brown,

Thanks Russell, got the message, just not aware of that use of agency
It is always good to learn something new

  • Hard News: Being Jim,

A hard row to hoe but hopefully with some fantastic rewards to come (which is not to say you have not has some so far)

I can’t make sense of this though

On one occasion, I felt he’d been deprived of agency for the sake of the production

I take your point but “agency”

  • Hard News: No Red Wedding, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

Often wondered the something myself and wondered just who drives it as it seems a sure way to discord etc
Yes, National have it and it is driven by the seating positions in Parliament, not sure if the Greens bother as it is not their style. they didn’t use to have Whips rather musterers which I feel has a nice NZ flavour

  • Hard News: No Red Wedding,

Seems a sensible compromise, culling the ABCs would have lost Labour a lot of expertise even if there is a need for more pruning before the next election

Jacinda Ardern just has not been getting much traction, so a sideways move with a chance to shine is good and Louisa Wall now has get something that get her teeth into

  • Hard News: Jonesing,

    >If Grant Robertson wins the leadership, David Cunliffe will continue to undermine him, just as he did with David Shearer, or
If David Cunliffe wins the leadership, Grant Robertson will continue to undermine him, just as he did with David Shearer, or
If Shane Jones wins the leadership, BOTH Grant Robertson AND David Cunliffe will continue to undermine him, just as both did with David Shearer.

    Seem elsewhere (keeping stock blog)

Could be some truth to this going on their past behaviour

  • Legal Beagle: The Police Investigation…,

As always, thank you Graeme for bring some clarity to this

I am fairly sure that if your supervisors have legal advice that what you are being directed to do is legal you have a fairly good defence if some other pointy headed lawyer then decided it might not be legal
(Note plenty of weaselly get out of jail words in this statement)

Bottom line my lawyer can probably beat yours if we keep paying him money

  • Hard News: This time it's Syria,

If there’s any good news, it’s that one will expect New Zealand to do anything in the foreseeable future. We ought to be glad of that.

And that is how you would run our foreign policy if you were in control,
sorry Russell I expect better from you than that
Like support for people to make their own decisions, support the over throw of despots etc
