  • Island Life: Staring into space,

Its nothing to do with auckland bashing
    But it is simple
NZinc's income comes agriculture, foresty, fishing and tourism
And if you are not in the chain that produces that wealth where the do you think your wage comes from?

  • Island Life: Staring into space,

Well i don't know, my idea of work invlves sweat running down my back
On the other hand if we use money as a measure of worth I have made a pot full of money from sitting and thinking, then acting
But I am inclined to view other people doing the same thing with suspicion because I am a farmer who actually produces the wealth that all NZers like to share in by ripping it out of my hands thanks mostly to people sitting at computer screens

  • Hard News: Grandpa,

Thank you for sharing that with us Russell, warts and all

It is always interesting to know where people come from

And yes even though I am a "right wing wanker" well compared to your normal readers, it brought a tear to my eye

  • Yellow Peril: the identity game,

    What an interesting thread

    But back to basics

I put New Zealander in the box and I have been writting it in/on the official forms for some years
I also live in Waimate where the practise is most common
I would like to add that I have lead a campaign to do this but that would be untrue
What else can I put on the forms, I am not a Maori (although the few local Moari are mostly cousins or family conections)
I can hardly put European as the male line of the family left there in the 1570s
Interestingly there is a family myth that we arrived before Nga Tahu which I might add the waitaha cousins find amusing
The Waihao is my river and Aoraki is my mountain, we know the stories of the land and its rythems
I am not indigenous, maybe my sons are
What else but New Zealander can I put on the form
    Persuade me!!

  • Climate change day of action,

Thanks for the heads up on the graphs Terence
Fascinating and I will admit thet they do show a greater warming
Mind you statistics and dam lies etc etc
But that was not my real point, I did say the climate is warmer and the winters have definitly got warmer in my life time
My point is that nothing we can do here in NZ will change the climate and it may/will lead to a much poorer economic outlook for our children

  • Climate change day of action,

    Dear Cindy,
I don't believe I claimed to be a weather scientist and in answer to your queston I am not

On the other hand I have spent the last 30+ years closely studing the local weather and the extended patterns of the last millenium
Because my livelyhood depends directly on the weather as of course does everybody in NZ but in my case it is make or break

Just because a slew of scientists say something is true does not make it true or niether does not mean it untrue

What I do stand by is my last statement, we might as well follow Russell Clarke's advice for all the good following greenpeace's advice will do for changing the climate

  • Climate change day of action,

I am with Nick on this
Ok the climate has changed but it always has, it is not and never has been a static thing
Possibly human activity has caused this but the changes are with in the range of the last 1000 years and do not campare on the long view (millions of years)
Any body for an ice age
Nothing we can do in NZ will change anything so why put our selves at a trading disadvantage because that will have an effect on our childrens lives

  • Hard News: Announcing: Public Address System!,

    Nice idea Russell
Of couse this just backs up my theory that you were cloned while in the States
Your posts there and since then have been aceptable (or better) which is a worry for a right winger....or does this mean you should worry
    Great work
