Not sure if it's hypocracy, but like when my mates are drunk or smoking outside, I don't mind. It's the drunks & smokers that I don't know that piss me off.
Yep that's hypocracy! :-) Also wanted to mention that for those who find cig smell unpleasant, we are very lucky to live in a country that does allow a daily shower and or washing of clothes frolicked around in said odour. I tend to opt for a daily solution and begin the day in the manner in which I choose to be acceptable for me,I therefore do not mind the smoker, the smelly person or the thousands of other people, dogs crapping,sick,etc.etc.Swings and roundabouts, snakes and ladders

But if you sit down and blow toxic fumes into my air, I have to move? Please.
I'm with Jill. If you occupy a public space, you have the responsibility not to make it unpleasant for others.
Don't wish to sound pedantic but most smokers in public places smoke in__ designated__ smoking friendly areas and therefore I think they should have all the due respect of any human being in those areas.Non smokers now have the advantage of preference to all indoors (other than my house cos I dont' mind) so whilst I don't begrudge a non smokers ability to sit in rooms full of BO and flu etc., I wish they would accept that the "my air" claim is null and void.Kyle, you don't own air.Its not yours so I figure , you may have to share it, so yes..Please.

I assume you know something of pot Andrew.A large part of the smoking culture is the sharing of the 1 to 2 paper standard joint( not talking the party Marley joint here) and often one in the group might say "this shits good" thus enlightening others as to the growers ability to produce a good product. I am trying to recall a situation when this doesn't happen but am struggling because thats what ya do. It's a sharing situation. When one has enough, one generally says "I've had enough".I think the younger generation are pretty good at over indulgence but that tends to be age and eventually most learn and go on to recall character building stories from our past.
The body and mind is pretty resilient. Some of us have experimented, some haven't, but at the end of the day, we have a diverse population that generally knows good from bad.I am happy to know my outlook isn't bleak so will continue to interact with others without judgement up front. -
I must note a pang of jealousy. Where I work, we have absolutely no culture of Friday drinks whatsoever.
If you're near Mt Eden, pop up to Galbraiths. We will say hello,But be prepared for smokers and drinkers and good conversation.:-)

Kyle, sport is not just entertainment. In this country, it is a cultural icon; a big part of our national psyche.
and perhaps if it wasn't so important we could concentrate on other matters that are actually beneficial to our country. Not against anyone who loves sport, but honestly, thats what it is,,, just sport.(moves quietly to the corner)

More could go into attempts that don't mean legally doping addicts untill their organs fail.
Although many addicts want the free dope (,don't care about organs, and many other things) so attempts to not dope could have an adverse effect.
Managed is sure better than addicts being after an illegal hit,
Financially yes but as you point out managed can mean organ failure. Its a hard basket one,but if there is genuine desire to come off drugs, the programme (if done correctly) can and does work. Alternatively I am a firm believer in weening yourself off, rather than adding another drug to the equation.I don't think it's ever easy to give up that which you love.

Then again, there's part of me that has to give Street and Wilkinson Priscilla snaps up for fronting in the House, rather than finding a blank Sudoku in their desk drawer requiring urgent attention.
can see the headlines already.MPs wasting tax payers money playing sudoku!:-)
