  • Hard News: Costly indeed,

Question for the jet-setters out there: Is it really that hard for a business traveller to separate out (and pay) personal charges from a hotel bill, or -- like so much else in life -- only as difficult as you choose to make it?

I used to travel a lot for work and it's not that hard to do once in a while. But when you travel a lot that would get pretty tedious. Personally I paid using my own card and invoiced my customers as appropriate. That way I didn't have to worry about odd line item on my hotel bill (not that there ever where any <cough>).

If these personal expenses that were put on the official card were paid back as a matter of course, I just don't see the issue. There was no gain by the ministers - just an easier and, probably more importantly, faster way to pay the bill at checkout.

It's always in the last place you look.

But things are always in the last place you look. Why would you keep on looking after you've found it?

Yes, and when Ministers are trying to justify their behaviour by blaming advice from officials I'd like to know if people like Mita Ririnui and Anderton are actually telling the truth. If they are, it shouldn't be that hard to come up with documentary evidence should it?

This was not what I objected to. I'm happy to agree with you on what you just wrote now, but your earlier comparison to der Große Lüge, with the implications that carries, was, IMO, out of proportion and unwarranted.

.. or is this just another case of der Große Lüge -- blame the officials who are in no position to turn around and call you out?

This is just way over the top. We're talking about some fricking expense claims here.

I don't mind that he watched "blue movies" (honestly, who says that anymore?) so long as he didn't, you know, 'gratify' himself.

'Cos that would be a sin.

You know, I always thought I hated that guy. But now I *really* hate that guy.

Now, now Danielle. Just the other day you said this about Coronation Street:

... it allows for odd thematic things like 'ugly people on TV'

But I suppose you said it with love ;-)

I don't like Shane Jones persona, but I've never met him.
Why the political editor, no less, engages in panty sniffing is beyond me.

Shane wears panties? This will provide new fodder for twitter's #ShaneJonesPornTitle

And what frustrates me about media discussions in NZ - at least the one's I've had - is that they are underlied by this idea that it's the way things are and nothing can be done. As if deregulation was a naturally occurring phenomenon or something.

Quite. Things are the way they are because of specific political choices that were made. Sure, the current state may be an unintended side-effect but it's certainly not an effect of

small, young country with many boundaries to push, just a little slow maybe

    ETA:

Er... upcoming? I think you may have been misinformed!

Lol! This iPhone NHL Ice Time sucks!

    How's ice hockey?

Not enough of it on TV. Funny you should mention hockey, though. I was just checking out the upcoming Flyers vs Blackhawks game on NHL Ice Time. Best iPhone app eva!.

It's not about indulding in crap in front of the telly - that's what Coronation Street is for.

    Hey!
