That's why it wasn't called. The referee was waiting on good polling data...
Democracy in action.

The consensus seems to be that while Smeltz was offside it would have been a tough to call to make
Indeed. And 84% of those who responed to the poll said so as well.

To be fair to the Herald, it's doubtful that a Minister or Press Sec would brief them on this and there's nothing about it on Kiwiblog or WhaleOil - how would you expect them to find out about it?
ooh burn!

Feel free to discuss that here, too. FYI I've already had email from a NatRad listener saying that they hope I fall off my bike and die, so there's no need for anyone else to mention this point again (even if you feel that way)
There is definitely something about helmet discussions that bring out very strong emotions in people. I'm always fascinated by the fact that helmet-discussions on BoingBoing nearly always turn into the most vicious ones.
Personally I never wore I cycle helmet till I came to NZ and if it wasn't the law I wouldn't bother.

Best vuvuzela tweet by @nhlrulebook:
Anyone who brings a vuvuzela to an NHL game will be killed, cryogenically frozen until they can be brought back to life, then killed again.

Still, saying that he's spent five dollars would stretch the definition of "spending" somewhat.
Ahh, but there is no definition of spending. So now it's all about semantics and the finer points of book-keeping? That's good, because I don't really care about that.

Shaving Ryan's Privates
Is it any good?

How about we go with one of the suggestions by Mark Thomas in his new book The People's Manifesto
MPs should not get paid wages but loans, like students, because they get highly paid jobs after they graduate from Westminster as a result of attending Parliament. They should therefore pay back the loan they got while in office.

"Snouts in Troughs". Somebody remind me again why I should temper my belief that the Dominion Post doesn't meet minimum standards to qualify as a neswpaper?
The printed NZHerald front-page was just as bad if that makes you feel any better. No, I guess not.
It had "7 Deadly Sins" splashed all over with a photo of Parekura Horomia drinking a bottle of beer (?) under large letters reading "Gluttony". <Repeat for the remaining sins>
Luckily "wrath" was actually provided as a good sin, because that's what the people of NZ justifiably felt.
