So, yes, Christchurch. TOFO and drinkies, Friday night. Venue TBA, but we’re so gob-smackingly lazy it’ll probably be the Dux. I can call Megan a slut if that helps.

    You can, and you will.

Promiscuity is IMO a series of short term, uncommitted sexual relationships that don’t involve emotional intimacy. Examples would be one night stands or the tour de first year (that when people – usually women – have sex with plenty of young 18 year old first years – usually men – at university).

And what exactly is wrong with that?

Seriously, how? I am sure millions of parents and teachers would like to know.

Also, can I just say how much I love that over on the Twitter thing right now is Emma asking me to show her my tits. Perfect.

However it does send a sexual signal. I’m saying we should reign in teenagers from giving out sexual signals.

Tess, I don't know if you actually remember being a teenager, but from what I remember, cladding young women in long pinafores and woolen tights (my actual school uniform) wasn't enough to stop the raging hormones. The length of the skirt, as many people have argued, is not the issue.

(The rest of this isn't aimed at Tess in particular. I've just been storing up thoughts while I waited for The Land That Internet Forgot to get me here.)

I quite clearly remember the first time I was called a slut. I was in a bar (the Dux, for those playing along at home), and I saw a male friend I hadn't seen for ages. I jumped up, gave him a massive hug, and proceeded to chat. He's an old friend. I wasn't planning to sleep with him. I wasn't flirting, except inasmuch as I flift with everyone. from behind me, I heard a friend say "Oh, Megan's got her flirt on" and her friend (who hated me) say "That's what you call it? I'd just call her a slut."

I remember being quite baffled. I could not, for the life of me think what I had done, other than talk to a dude.

Turns out, that's quite bad. So, if talking to a guy is bad, wearing a short skirt is bad, and getting my tits out (Emma, Friday = TOFO, yes?) is APPALLING, how can I not be a slut?

And OH MY GOD, if I don't do any of those things, how will I ever snag myself a husband?

  • Hard News: Do you like what we've done…, in reply to Hilary Stace,

At the top, in the middle (I guess) column, it should have a little box with your name and a link to "edit your profile". You can add them in there. :)

I'm late to the party (as always) but...

But the culture that makes this place work won’t change. The ability to show respect for others, even in the course of vigorously disagreeing with them – and to let grudges go – is crucial on Public Address. As is the valuing of knowledge. Not for the first time, I’ll quote Gordon Dryden: “Don’t give me your opinion – give me your experience.”

Frankly, as long as we keep doing that, we could be doing this on the back of an envelope, as far as I am concerned. So the fact that it is all shiny and pretty and new is a bonus.

Oh, but being able to click on my name and see my old comments. Well. That's going to make it easier for people to mock me. Is that what you want, Russell? Is it?

  • The end of the road West,

I'm feeling much better about it this morning than I was last night. I'm even almost on board with the Pascalle/Judd thing. Almost.

However. Jethro really needed some comeuppance. Or just something. What happened to the plan that was going to make them all rich, just two or three episodes ago?

  • The end of the road West,

C'mon Geoff: there wasn't room for that and empathy. Something had to go.

Watching her face break as she realised Pascalle was actually in love with Judd, and had...gone there....was my favourite moment of this season.

  • The end of the road West,

Can I put in a good word for Pascalle, you miserable bastards?

You can, but I won't hear it. and I don't buy that if you had loved Cheryl, in all her staunch messed-upedness (it is TOO a word), you could fall for Pascalle.

I think Siobhan Marshall is fantastic, and yeah, the character has definitely grown. I just don't feel her.

    Loretta on the other hand...

  • The end of the road West,

it's interesting how they've managed to make Aaron Spiller seem (almost) sympathetic. He's such a dead-on archetype that I'm amazed he hasn't been written before- I mean, we all know someone similar to him, right?

I believe Emma has already covered this.
