  • Random Play: The Seduction of the Strange,

It will be a vulgar tacky piece of shite that shouldn't be allowed IMNSHO.

OK for Las Vegas, but not here.

  • Hard News: Getting Across,

No it won't make tourists stay an extra night, but assuming all the engineering issues can be solved it would make a hell of alot of sense, and just imagine - a major piece of well-designed public infrastructure we could actually be proud of !
Unheard of in Auckland I know, but I live in hope.

I'm just wondering - maybe we can turn "Always blow on the pie" into a new form a gay code ;-)

  • Hard News: I'd just like to thank ...,

I was idly flicking in and out of the show at home, then the Mint Chicks came on !
That was a blinding version of She's a Mod - such energy and fun. Had me dancing a little in my living room.

  • Hard News: In the Game,

And even if the case could be made that bidding for commercial rugby rights serves the brief of Maori development, I'd expect to see and hear the case made, not have taxpayers' money just handed over on the say-so of the minister.

For a start, you'd want to look at the opportunity cost of taking that $3 million away from all the other development initiatives that might have a claim on it.

Apart from that, Sharples' actions here seem quite extraordinary, and they would be equally so from any other minister.

To me it seems a little bit like "I've got some power now and I'm going to use it" .
It strikes me as a poorly thought out opportunist move on his part. And a totally inappropriate way to use TPK funds that are tagged for development. A rort in fact.

  • OnPoint: Manufacturing Dissent,

So many of our prisoners are actually people with real mental health issues, who gain nothing by being locked up for a term, released, re-offending due to mental-health issues, inability to cope with the outside world etc then locked up again etc.

My chief issues with private prisons is one of principle. Allowing a profit-driven private company to incarcerate citizens is anathema to me. The ability to hold a citizen in prison is a duty of the state and of no one else.

Collins is an opportunist, out to try and manage the PR around double-bunking, with no real interest in the dangers of it. She exeplifies the growing discourse we here for vengence and retribution rather than the much more expensive option of serious rehab work.

  • Hard News: The roof was on fire,

I read the show's title as "Thong" at least half a dozen times before realising my error. I think I might even prefer it.

  • Hard News: The next bylaw will ban irony,

Has anyone else been particularly impressed by Maori TV, not just in the way it handled this incident, but in general? They've been screening some very good films, too.

Yes, as a regular occurrence Maori TV has a far better schedule of films and documentaries than TV1,2,3.

I agree, it has usually been excellent. I don't think the call here was though.

    regarding the Chinese documentary:

I don't think Maori TV should have shown it. To me it looks far too much like appeasement. The Chinese govt is a ruthless oppressive & racist regime under its current "friendly" face to the west.

I wouldn't support showing a North Korean "Look how happy our people are" documentary, nor one from Cambodia explaining how the Pol POt regime and Killing fields never actually happened.

It's an Orwellian attempt to portray the Chinese govt in a particular light, and I can't support it.
