  • Hard News: In the nicest possible way,

You know Michael H (great first name btw;-)), as one of the participants in the clip, I thought it was entirely aimed at nutters and bigots, and dismissive of them rather than attacking them. It is both light-hearted (hence all the smiles) and making a serious point.

We don't want to be around small-minded ignorant bigots.

I think that's a reasonable position for anyone with intelligence and a humanist perspective to take.

I am just amazed I don't look as hungover as I felt while doing it.

  • Up Front: I Love it When a Plan Comes Together,

This was supposed to be top secret!

In punishment for betraying our plot, you will never find another decent hairdresser or interior designer again!

  • Hard News: Sunday blues, and we're on Sky,

I agree about the Sunday News, and it does seem to be Jonathan Marshall who is leading it in this direction. He's a very good tabloid reporter - I often find I'm half-appalled, half-admiring of what he does.

I wonder if he'll be able to turn into a really good non-tabloid reporter? He certainly has the drive.

  • Island Life: Bye, bye, you peculiar guy.,

Ah prog rock, concept albums - yes, they were/are great .
Mike Oldfield - remember his sister Sally and her one album (I think) "Mandala"?

  • Hard News: Another entry in the Public…,

Glad you're feeling able to write again Russell. I dread kidney stones, having watched a friend go through the pain of them. Bloody awful to stand there and not be able to do anything.

Next time, call the ambulance early! You're not wasting their time.

And doesn't this incredible level of medical service, no money required, best level of care, just show that with its faults NZ has a bloody amazing medical system? Every time some wanker describes it as "third world" I want to shake them and take them to a real thrid world hospital.

    Rant over, ;-) Get better!

  • Island Life: Driving around Mt Eden,…,

I really hate finding myself agrreeing with Collins about anything, but this isn't such a dumb idea. Simple efficient modular architecture. According to Nat Radio this a.m. they'd all have windows, toilets, and be insulated, proper floors etc.

  • Speaker: A Very Simple Stroke,

As usual, David, the way you write fills me with envy and admiration, and that this piece makes me feel that way is a good sign of your recovery.
Thank you for telling us all this.
    Much love

  • Hard News: On the Waterfront,

The Red Fence - I love it, and suspect the old part of it, including around Queens Wharf, might be heritage listed. It is a beautiful piece of Victorian or Edwardian ironwork - let's please leave it up! But with the gates open!

  • Hard News: A little liberal line in the sand,

I loved the first version, but now I agree with russell, the 2nd one works even better.

It's such a great cheery little song.

Who are we going to get here in NZ to make one??
