A silly question Dan, but shouldn't the external 1Tb setup have been a backup? Meaning the data already exists on a computer somewhere? Don't tell me you had 1Tb of JBOD standalone that's gone west on you? Say it ain't so.
It's my media drive, so no, not replicated. My iMac only has a 256GB internal drive so the media got moved off it a long time ago. And I only backup the internal drive 'cause that's where the real documents live.
Luckily, LaCie are sending me a replacement case for free even though it is out of warranty. Thanks DKK for gently leaning on them.
And I'll be buying another 1TB as yet another backup.

OK smart people - here's my problem.
LaCie 1TB Big Drive, nearly three years old, out of warranty. Power supply fails, won't mount. Inside the case are two 500GB IDE drives that both need to be mounted as one partition to read anything off them (JBOD for those that want acronyms).
Nobody makes a two bay IDE drive case.
The drives are fine and the data is precious.
How do I get my 1TB off these drives?

You have a cat named "Colin".....?
And I've got a cat named Phil. Want to make something of it?
Yes! Some kind of drummer and lead singer for a soft MOR band. Not exactly. He had a brother named Don - they were named after the Everly Brothers. And the both came after the late, lamented, legendary, Marvin (named after Marvin Gaye)

Is the version shown at midnight better and more interesting that the one that will be shown for the following month?
The way that 35mm film deteriorates under use (shining hot lights through it, constant threading, less than clean-room standard projection booths) that may actually be true.

test cricket would be more like jazz, or maybe prog rock, wouldn't it?
20/20 like thrash metal or some types of punk.
one dayers not sure.Test cricket is Shakespeare, ODI cricket is Chekov and T20 is Everybody Loves Raymond.

How long to download a movie from the store Dan? That always seemed to be the problem to me.
HD movies take a few hours. You can keep them for a month before you have to watch them though (and then the rental period is 48 hours) so I tend to have a couple set up and ready for when I want to watch something.
It's not that useful for impulse viewing but I understand that non-HD content is ready to go after about 30 minutes.
And the 48 hour rental period means I can spread watching a long movie out over three nights if I'm canny.

Apple TV could have been the insanely great device that made it easy for people to watch any internet video on their TVs,
I love my Apple TV. I had to cheat a bit to get content on it in the early days (ahem, Handbrake) but I've rented a few HD movies from the Store and they look and sound great. I now use it for all the music in the lounge room too. I use it more than Sky.

The designers at AIM proximity come highly touted
I've always wondered whether AIM Proximity was a particularly good name for a communications outfit.
AIM=We're going to try
Proximity=to get close or next toSo their name tells me that they're going to try and get close to their targets but not that they're going to achieve them. Doesn't fill me with confidence.
[Their Wgtn offices are across the road from where I work, so I see that name every day...]

Rod Latham, I think?
A favourite story about another of NZ's portly dashers, Richard Reid (1989-91). Picked as a slogger, opening with Martin Crowe, in his first overseas ODI at Sydney he was found out by Alderman and Bruce Reid, scoring 17 in an hour.
After a couple of overs of playing and missing he wandered down to Crowe and said nonchalantly, "These guys are quite good, eh?" and wandered back to miss a few more.
