Who buys Investigate?
I bought it once because Wishart said something about me.
Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. Ecclesiastes 1:2

Call me cynical (I know you will) but it looks to me as if Jackson was chosen for effect. That nice Mr Key's government is all about Getting Things Done, which is all about appearances really. Getting our hero film maker to sort out the Film Commission is exactly the right mix of celebrity and activity the Government needs to give the appearance of purpose.

If you're Pakeha, it's all too easy to think that there is no difference. I saw some unpublished analysis that showed a very high correlation between answering "New Zealander" and experiencing redness of the neck.
The Census identification "New Zealander" gives me as much mirth as the current CIR question. Back in the day, somewhere around 1840, "New Zealander" meant Maori, and was commonly used as such in official documents and in literature.
Perhaps some citizens should make a concerted effort to encourage the Census to allow them to identify themselves as Hottentots or Mulattos.

And you try and tell the young people of today that ... they won't believe you. They do not realise that things were so crap in the mid-70s that people welcomed Mrs Thatcher as a saviour.

We had power cuts in Kent. They would turn off the power for half the town one night, the other half the next. I was annoyed when the power was turned off just before Dr Who came on.

"Had have continued" does not use any tense with which I am familiar
It is a double pluperfect, an informal conversational style which replaces the conditional. It expresses unreality - an event that did not occur but might have done. It is not the same as "had continued," which expresses an event which did occur.

We should all stay at home and eat as much pork as we can, to eradicate this menace once and for all.

Apologies in advance for stating the bleeding obvious at this late stage in proceedings, but why would anyone bother voting for Lee, Norman or Boscawen? They already are in Parliament. Of course they want to prove they are real MPs and not just list fodder, but the voters are insulted by the offer of a second-hand candidate, who has suddenly become passionate about the electorate.

@Worth: ""I believe I may make a greater contribution through my business activities than by attempting to remain in politics in what would clearly be an untenable position, and hoping to be forgiven for things of which I am innocent."
What a wanker.

Juries, of course, are too stupid to understand this sort of thing, so the court makes sure they do not hear it and become hopelessly confused.
