  • Island Life: The One Minute Stadium,

We don't need a new stadium. New Zealand is full of places to play rugby. Auckland alone has enough of them. If the International Rugby Board is not content with Eden Park or the Jade Stadium they should hold their tournament somewhere else like Canada or Italy. We should not spend public money to ensure they have enough corporate boxes and advertising revenue.

  • Hard News: Because I am weak,

The Carlaw Park would involve the destruction of several square hectares of the Domain. Call me a heretic but I do not think that a sports stadium is worth that.

Apparently, the IRB would be happy with a revamped Eden Park, so I don't think that option could be dismissed so easily.

Whatever site is used for the stadium, we should consider moving the entire port elsewhere, not just a couple of wharves. It is ridiculous that the city's waterfront is largely unavailable to its citizens.

  • Hard News: Something up with Apple?,

"So there's your answer, set yourself up as a business and go straight to the wholesaler."

That's the problem, not the solution. Renaissance sells directly to business customers and thus is competing with the firms it supplies: the authorised service providers who are obliged to by their Apple product from Renaissance.

As for browsers, Safari has never crashed on me, not once. Firefox often falls over; yesterday, after a crash, the Mozilla Quality Feedback agent got itself caught in an endless loop of trying and failing to send information about the Firefox crash.

    At least it's not IE.

I just heard someone on National Radio saying she wanted Guns n' Roses' Nothing Lasts for Ever as her wedding song.

  • Hard News: Something up with Apple?,

My money is on this being about Renaissance losing the Apple contract. There has been speculation about that for years. Renaissance has a conflict of interest, as it is both the sole supplier of Apple product in NZ and a major PC wholesaler. Renaissance both supplies retailers and competes with them.

  • If the Straitjacket Fits ...,

Call me a pedant, but I cannot see any necessary connexion between fireworks and entrepreneurial flair. I think our chances of producing a new generation of business leaders will be enhanced if more teenagers get to become adults, with the added bonus of a full set of fingers.

Mind you, that kid who decided to have a smoke while he was sniffing kerosene was probably unlikely to be one of the future movers and shakers.
