another successful solar orbit...I've never understood why Auckland and Australia make such a big fuss about my birthday?

Well it would be nice if you showed up for the party Ian. I make the effort on NYE for mine. Jus' sayin' ;).
Many happy solar orbits to you. Hope you have many more.

It seems to me that that the normalization you are referring to is well under way.

I saw no lycra on Wednesday in West or East Aux . I do think tho' that from the good evidence that RB has provided (by way of great pix,) there really needs to be better quality roads as well. Stone chips have taken out 2 of our windscreens recently and a friend working on the Cambridge Bypass was saying our roading is shit. Poorly made to save dollars which is what SH1 is resurfaced with continuously. Why not make them good once? Grrr

That still leaves a climb up to Queen Street, but at least you only have to do it once.

Don't people ride uphill anymore? I had to ride up Orakei Rd every school day for years. A trip to Patiki Rd t'other day had me checking out the cylists from my passenger seat and their pace is up there with the cars. Then getting off the freeway at Greenlane I was reminded of the underpass that friends used at Intermediate School and cyclists were riding under that in both directions as I sat in heavy traffic at the roundabout. My thoughts were, even 40 years ago when traffic wasn't heavy, we had paths for cycle use.

(I can’t believe we have all these great pohutukawa pictures and none from Cape Reinga yet)

Managed to get up the rocks and a glance across to Mt Puheke revealed this Pohutakawa the other day.( I’ll get back soon when it is not being invaded by 4wd on the beach by tourorists. They will be gone soon back down SH1)
So yeah ,not the Cape but close…
And a image of Puheke .

  • Hard News: Word of the Year 2014: #dirtypolitics, in reply to mark taslov,

In a truly civil society the police would have first approached Nicky to initiate discussion about Rawshark, Rawshark who will be enjoying another Christmas unblemished by pending litigation, confiscation et al.

I think Nicky's professionalism on principle has led to him being the best person to handle the Police. I think Bradley Ambrose and the tea pot affair was a good example of what the Police will do once a complaint gets made by a well known person of interest. I think the Police pov was Hager and Ambrose was guilty and Slater and Key was innocent just because of the law. The murkiness reveals itself when the Police determine that the law is broken without doing their job of investigating the situation before they jump to the assumption of guilt. This may have been also why the Police wanted to be seen to have learnt from the teapot tapes with their lengthy search of Nicky's house and why Nicky's professionalism was needed then. Trouble is though that they still start with the same flawed concept of guilty until proven innocent (or essential for NZ democratic society) rather than innocent until proven guilty. Hence the clouds are grey and history proves that , yep, same shit ,different day.

Respect, Deborah, for volunteering to do the tough stuff.

    A+

And seeing the bigger picture of where this government has pushed us. I thank Nicky Hager for that too. Tremendous effort all round. He deserves person of the year and I hope he has a good break as with all the rest of you. I'll go back to unpacking boxes and boxes and boxes and.....
