Here's stats NZ on the subject.
I find 36% are not first abortions interesting.
The constant rate at which the numbers track ever higher suggests another health or life style issue needs to be addressed. -
Dyan - that's simply a fatuous argument, not unlike much of the 1970s feminist rhetoric.
Danielle - I couldn't agree more that women should be more highly valued and indeed autonomous, and so too all human life.
The debate should be played out once these values are in place by giving real support to the children and their parents. So that all can enjoy a dignified and enriching life.
Working for families has achieved this, for some. There was a mass exodus of muns from my old office, keen to be stay at home muns once that was introduce.
If programmes like this are expanded and suitable supports put in place we wiould be in a better position to have this debate. -

"Furthermore, the evidence for long-term psychological damage is much greater than that for damage from abortion."
Not sure the adopted children would agree with that, but it would be fascinating to read.

Lucy - yip guys do the bunk all the time & that needs to be addressed, not just by the Tax department either. In my eyes it amounts to child abandonment and is a form of abuse.
Any thoughts on the prospect of adoption as part of an alternative to abortion?

And how did the size of Catholic families drop from the 10 & 8 kids of my fathers generation to the 2 or 3 of my own.
TV isn't that interesting ;-) -
It's always amazed me that the campaign for rights over ones body wasn't extended to euthanasia.
To me this is the more logical conclusion of that arguement.
Abortion, is a complex issue. I've helped two very close friends go through it & bit my tongue on the issue.
The first step in the debate should not start with abortion, but in valuing parents & children. Providing full care for children, sole parents, and drawing in the fathers who are absent from almost all debate on this issue.
If there is a better alternative for the lives of sole parents and children, to a greater or lesser degree this issue will address itself.
Re-mercury - I've been getting any replacements in that white stuff for years. I wanted gold for a replacement crown but my dentist wouldn't do it.

I was going to claim ignorance and indifference, but in doing so I realised I knew better.
I call for a limit on the apostrophe and a pox upon the semicolon.

Simon - nice to see that you've picked up the ball.
"Your statement that Pacific unemployment is only 5% is proof that Pacific Islanders don't need special treatment. Maybe we should have a quota for bringing English people here instead. It sounds like they need more help, if what you say is right."
These stats are the best any of us can produce, they're recent & official. From this can you see that Clydesdales call to stop PI immigration is baseless?

Looking at Greg Clydesdales page at Massey & Lincoln he seems to be doing a bit of academic slip-streaming.
He got his PhD in 2002, but sites presentations from 1991. The reason may be that the co-presenter in 1991 is held in high regard? His co-presenter sites peer reviewed publications from 2001 on his bio.
