  • Hard News: Medical Matters,

Rich - I followed the statement with the one fact we can all agree on. We don't know it all - the only absolute fact we really know.

I don't dispute scientific rigour, but would like it to share the space a bit with other ways ok knowing.

My fave was the Taniwha in the Waikato & Transit building around the Taniwha, it's wetland habitat, and the safer curved road that followed.
The different way of knowing was supported by that soft science of ecology & latter supported with the growth in knowledge about road design - straighter ain't always safer.

I've been wondering if the Maori concept of all things having 'Mauri' might be reflected in scientific knowledge of molecular vibration?
Is scientific knowledge catching up with maori knowledge?

  • Hard News: Medical Matters,

I wasn't going to wade into Deborah's Blog post lauded by Russell.

Now in the light Deborah confirms her stance could 'justify' infantacide, do we have a similar show of support?

I did think it was bad tast to reffer to your kids as livestock after that post, but to follow through with this is gob-smackingly inane.

  • Hard News: Medical Matters,

    Science is a belief structure.

Rich you've assumed science can measure all things, which it can't & so is not absolute - that be vodka.

Grant & Russell - Why try to invalidate each others understanding of life?

Might be time to accept their are different beliefs (yip science is a belief structure) on when life starts.

No-one seems to have changed their mind through this discussion, but certainly some thoughtful insights have been presented, by some.

  • Hard News: Medical Matters,

Cheers Islander, I appreciate your comment.

I see the two issues as very similar & your views are consistant.

I don't see either becoming an election issue, but hope for a better formed and reasoned policy as a result.

Could I ask those infavour of our privious abortion policy & practise, if you may be in favour of euthanasia?

It might be handy in removing the gender bias of abortion for a moment.

Anon for obvious reasons - a tragic tale, please let me express sympathy as the others here have.

  • Hard News: Medical Matters,

I really do want to get away from blaming the women going to the clinics. That's not my aim at all.
Shaping a community where it is not needed because supports are in place, is my preffered option - Nanny State if you will.

Craig was right - I wonder where the sane people are?

    David - I don't know.
I think we can do far better than we are in the care of kiddies & sole parents, thereby making it a dignified option, along with adoption than is currently being done.

  • Hard News: Medical Matters,

David - If it can't survive without the mother, (and is not actually conscious), then it's not fully human yet.

So close the neo-natal unit then eh?

Russell - I know a few who have held a small service to morn the loss in miscarriage, no death notice mind you.

A little more nuanced discussion might be helpful here.
