After reading all these comments about personal highlights (and tardy I am to say the least) , I have tried to think about what did it for me this year and what I realised was pretty boring really but thought what the hey, I'll mention it anyway.
It's every living day. With all the bullshit that baffles brains, I am happy to be alive!
Was in the supermarket t'other day and after bumping into one friend who gave me the run down on how many of our friends had died (the liver has a lot to answer for)I heard a faint tune in the distance that tweeked my interest. I could not believe my ears. Here, in lil' ol' 3 Kings was Jerry Garcia singing "You Are My Shining Star"
Summed the whole day up nicely.Friends, my amigos,
So..
Merry Jerry Xmas -

They certainly are stress factories for the staff. Our budgets were enough to eek out a fine living for decades and that was just a monthly projection. Of course the rent reflected that. Which is why they must expand! The almighty dosh. And, my coffee and cigarette consumption was clockwork every break. that was standard diet.
One point (and the only one I have seen in my few brief visits) of difference in St Lukes would be massage. It has brought the world of chinese massage out in the open, where one isn't afraid to explore.Certainly something I would use if I worked there.
The other thing I pondered recently, was this. After the congestion problems perceived,if said mall expands, I don't see it anywhere near as critical as witnessed on Dominion Rd t'other day. As soon as a poor motorcyclist got squashed, the road was shut for hours and the carnage sat for anyone to see. That was the closest choice I had to get to a telecom shop. With knowledge of the area surrounding, I could scoot in and around the mess and beat the traffic congestion, but for strangers passing through, it was quite chaotic for hours. I figured at least traffic does still move in a controlled environment like around the mall.
Also, there are quite a lot of buses that get one next to the mall. I was very surprised to see that buses from the eastern suburbs do come by there.
Jus' sayin' :) -

Yes Tea Shop above and way back, the most amazing waterfall in the middle of the mall that went upward. Like beads of oil. I have the photo with Grandad to prove it. Was 6 at the time.

I normally only get bras and knickers from Farmers and the odd grocery item. My girlfriend on visiting Ak always drags me in ( she worked there as long as me) to St Lukes or Onehunga Dress mart but seriously I do avoid the place as much as one is able and I actually drive past it every day. It really is a bit boring for me. I abhor shopping. True!

I think any shopping is mad as. Having worked in St Lukes (what felt like every friggin day) for 7 years, I have to admit, I think it's the people like Mr Wilson and there is many, that will use, and enjoy it, no matter it's size. You get regulars (the every Tuesday shoppers) you get the minibus seniors (retirement homes are all over St Lukes, Sandringham, Mt Roskill). You get single women/mothers who prefer to park in safety. You get female retailers who feel safer going to their cars after late shifts and those with no parking other than surrounding streets, get security to escort them. In general there is a group of the public happy to use the maul. I think it's mad to shop, generally, but I do know a few back doors in for any shopping I have to commit in that maul, and I sneak in then out as quickly as possible. JB Hifi, Dick Smith, work across the road and I imagine a bridge could go over to that group of shops for pedestrians?
But yeah, don't like the maul at the best of times but Mr Wilson's right sir! People will use it. It will be the same people that will continue to use it. It will just be bigger and uglier than it is now. Some will visit to have a look to say they have been, because y'know, it's the biggest. It will be done. The little softball field across from the car park will be gone. A sad sign of the times. -
