I don't know the numbers of deaths from pepper spray but with dogs not killing any = has to be better.
Remeber the film of the cop pepper spraying the dude hand cuffed and lying down, hmm.My assumption was that the cops need more toys.
It is probably easier for them to get toys than recruits at the moment = election year shopping I suppose. -
The best thing is having other people around (sober), many eyes make a safer city.
CCTV means the cops will get there if something is going on long enough, but they're not the solution.
Better policing of intoxication (serving food), crowded bars, and more mixed use of an area might dillute the situation a bit as well.
What are your thoughts on this?
Pepper spray & Tazers kill, but to my knowledge a police dog never has. Therefore as scary as they may be I'ld like more dogs on the beat than a more heavily armed force.

It was a set up. Those two were out for a fight & your son was a 'soft' target. If you know he's not aggressive, they saw it too and sized him up before they approached.Runnings better than fighting. If you think you can win the fight - do you think you can win the court case - in my experience cops charge the winner of a fight, if for no other reason than the loser takes better photos with a face covered in blood.
A life lesson, don't trust the bastards.
I don't recommend boxing lessons, then if he wins. The cops have a trained fighter (intent) to charge, same with anything that might count as a weapon (shows intent).Option B - stay with your mates (as he was), be a bit weary, & prepared to run & if the cops show up - always, always, leave quickly.
If he's a muso he doesn't want athritis in his nuckles from punching the bag.

Cheers DeepRed
So they're promoting themselves over the expressed wishes of the victims family.
I kind of want to see them lay the complaint now and see what happens. I expect a judge will give them a bit of a dressing down over it.

Rich - LivingSpace doesn't have double glazing & so if you wanted to live there ment noise & cold would come right through.
Be warned Hendersons 5Mile in Queenstown seeks to go underground for a couple of stories - including accomodation.
Really horrid thing is the mall/shopping complex is going to be a private space. -
Matthew - bowl both bridges on Colombo & Moorhouse cnrs creating a tree lined walk/cycleway (OK with a set of lights for rail) seperated from cars & open the city to the south.
Brilliant - we've fixed it.

If any developers are out there - I recon Colombo St South offers a real oppitunity.
Glorious but run down Red Brick old styled shop fronts, flat upstairs & coffee shop downstairs seems perfect.
Better still a few of the little people might want to divert from owning residential rental property and go into small retail/flat options close to town?!

All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.

My Street has battled the Riccarton Retailers over over our insistence of having 2hr max parking. So as the retailers don't park here all day long (which is what they want). Behind Katmandu there is a parking space for them which isn't used greatly.
Riccarton Rd has a has Girls High, Boys High, Middleton Grange, Kirkwood Int., Riccarton High, St Teresas Primary, Villa Maria, & Riccarton Primary, either on it or one block off it. Just turn the current car parks on the side of the road into cycle ways but physically seperate fron the road itself & it instantly removes 90% of the SUVs from the road.
We might remeber Fingers Fahey was the idiot who launched Cycle Hlmets on the population of NZ.

Stephen - I must contest that we have reached Peak Lycra!
The boy racers of the cycling world need to curb their ways, be a little curtious and stop shaving their legs (unless you like that sort of thing).
The way to get your average person on a bike is to make it a pleasant, safe and non competitive.
Features like making the traffic lights move in time with cyclists 15-18kms, so that cyclists have a continuous stream of traffic & the cars are in a stop/start motion. Having a physically seperate path to follow, Melbourne has just run through this programme.
In short you can be a wanker..er boy racer in a car (& they're mostly over 40yrs) or on a bicycle. Most people aren't, most people are just travelling through.
The answer to cars is free flowing cyclists & regular public transport.
What's more our roads aren't made for racing tires and you'll get punctures once a week.
