However the question wasn’t put to Maori, it was put to Hone Harawira, so I can understand him having a position (wherever he got it from) that he won’t speak ill of the dead.
He didn’t do it very well and he’s dug himself a hole as a result, but it’s not an unreasonable position to hold.
Agreed, however the question was also put to Pita Sharples. No one seemed to complain that he had the same view as Hone.
Many cultures don't like to speak ill of the dead, and many (as an aside) find celebrating someone's death quite deplorable.
Mayan and Aztecs on the other hand.... -

I never would have guessed that, Russell. :) But do you really think that NZEI PR was actually very helpful, as opposed to being (obviously) attention-grabbing? You know, the safety and wellbeing of children might just be marginally more important than a media slap-fight between the Minister and the union.
Tolley made her bed 2+ years back when appointed to her position. You makes your bed, you lie in it, (although she fly in it, back when helicopters were her preference for a meet and greet.)
The National Party modus operandi has always been to bully. Generally pretty spiteful as seen yesterday in Parliament. hell, even the speaker couldn't control himself, which, basically condoned such ridicule.
I think Tolley has just adopted the learnt National Party behaviour, and NZEI know the media is the only way to get Tolley to take notice. IMO -

I have great envy of people whose parents still live in the "family home". )
That can be good or bad, I often wish, my parents had sold. It probably would have helped my parents lives later down the track. Still how do you convince them when a) they were gifted the land as a wedding present and b) Dad built it.
I'm from( for me) Auckland, although born down South, but gotta admit The States helps me identify my roots and The Uk helps me understand my Mothers entire family and understand why she married a foreigner.
Truth, is I do like being from "this planet and everywhere it offers,can't say I get bored at all" ;)

Snap, and although I spent different times of the year going to primary school down there, I really only remember the jumpers Mama Ashton knitted, the Mustang she drove and the snow on the Cashmere Hills, which is probably because there was no snow in Auckland .
Must admit, when the quake struck, a tinge of sadness swept over me, like it got me somehow, but I think it is the fact that NZ is so small. Oh ok, and I got family there.
