But do your bosses then go on to say it never happened?

Well that depends! But "I don't want to know!" isn't the head in the sand bit, that's just dealing with shit happening.

“I just need to tell you what I have just done. I’ve just accessed my pay,” she told the auditor, who replied: “I don’t think I want to hear this.”

I say that about three times a day. Typically followed by a pause and then figuring out what the problem is.

My sole cultural exposure was to Paul Whitehouse or someone on R4 discussing (in the course of stand-up) why, when building the fully impregnable death star thingy, they had to leave a little entranceway to a tunnel that Luke Skyshafter or somebody could fly up and blow the fucker up, Really.

Star Wars doesn't really stand up to any technical analysis. Why they had to fly for 30 minutes along the trench before firing their photon torpedoes. Why firing torpedos across the surface of the ship would lead to them turning 90 degrees down an exhaust shaft and destroying the whole ship. Why there's only one vulnerable exhaust shaft for a whole ship the size of a planet.

I've seen both 2 and 3, and they honestly were so full of nothing I can't even remember much of them, and the bits I can remember, I couldn't tell you which one they come from. 1 was at least memorable I guess, but I'm not sure he didn't anything good with the series after they left Hoth, apart from returning to Tattooine in Jedi.

Yes, but Hockey is their No1 sport, and aside from an average football team they play little else.

They're also very into skiing, bialthlon, and tremendously successful at Canoe Slalom, good at Kayaking, and they shoot fairly well.

But the conclusion to your argument is likely that there isn't enough money to support our top cricketers because most money goes to supporting rugby - when there clearly is - our top batsmen have been incredibly well paid in the past five years or so by spending a few weeks in India. McCullum and Taylor would be better paid over that period than most All Blacks, and for far less work. When playing for the Black Caps and while playing in the IPL and the Big Bash they play with and against world class players. NZ Cricket should have this more together and have a team that is more competitive.

Oh don't say that! It's a Great NZ Delusion that one day, with a bit of coaching, we'll produce a world class cricket team. While in fact we don't have enough people and don't play enough cricket to get anywhere near India, Australia and even England.

There are approximately 100,000 registered cricket players in NZ.

Slovakia has 8000 ice hockey players (12th in the world) and won silver at the 2012 world champs.

I think numbers are important, but the structure that they're in is more important. NZ cricket just isn't a very competitive environment. Coaching is part of that, but a good competitive structure utilises coaching well. Your team only comes from the top 100 or so players, so our six cricket regions are probably enough to create a good team - Australia has what 7 or 8 teams at the top level?

You haven’t missed it, it’s been practically nonexistent.

Based on the Listener article, if he manages his media presentation as carefully with everything, how the hell would anyone who hasn't met him know anything about what he is like. I just about spat my morning tea all over my keyboard when I read about him not wanting a photo opportunity on the grass or on the beach. FFS.

Surely we must have a PAS reader who is an optometrist who can make a house call to CHCH?

My optometrist uses about a tremendous amount of expensive heavy gadgets to test my eyes. Would require a van at least.

Quite rightly, when asked about next February’s vote, Cunliffe says he doesn’t know. I would have hoped all intelligent MPs would have said the same. If the February vote is to mean anything then it is a time for the leadership issue to be addressed again afresh.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about. As I understand it there's a regular vote in February which confirms or changes the leadership. If Cunliffe is going to be putting his name forward then, I don't see what the big deal is. It's an election, I'd struggle to call it a coup, and if he hinted now that he was thinking about doing that I don't see that as disloyal or newsworthy. We can think someone else is doing an OK job and be loyal to them, while thinking that we'd do a better job.

Feels like everyone on both sides of the camera needs to grow up and get on with something important.

The last Colmar Brunton Poll had NZF at 4.9%. With n=856 for the party vote question, this poll alone gives NZF a ~46% chance of making it into Parliament.

Besides which, writing off NZF when they're anywhere near a threshold (which might be lowering soon) is crazy. Hate him or... hate him, he's certainly capable of coming back from the brink of political death.

What does everyone think of the unions having 20% of the vote (and presumably many of their members being members so voting again?). Feels very 1970s to me, but I'm not involved at all so I wonder what the reasoning is.

The thing about Armstrong’s column, and I speak as a delegate who was present, is that there is no necessary connection between voting for a change that disadvantages Shearer and wanting to knife him, if you believe that those changes are necessary for democratic reasons.

That was my thought watching the news over the weekend - I suspect a lot of Labour Party members enjoyed having a say after Goff stepped down and want more of that kind of influence - regardless of who they support.
