The Speaker of The House has sent a letter to MP's floating the idea of removing the Prayer from the opening of each Parliamentary session. And sadly the politicians are already falling over themselves to declare they don't have a problem with it and it should stay. Including John Key who was on Campbell Live earlier this week admitting that he was not religious (brave of him I thought, and it made me feel better about him)(less so today, obviously).
The Prayer finishes with the words "... in Jesus Christ, our Lord..." to which I say "WTF!?". JC is not my lord and saviour and I know he is not L&S for many politicians so why are they so hypocritical in saying it? I really wish they would take this opportunity to get rid of it - but I know they won't. It's just too easy to shrug and say "What''s the harm?"

You think that reality TV could not possibly drop the bar any lower and then something like this happens.... The people who make this piece of human-suffering-as-spectacle have a justification. Waiting for an organ is "just like playing the lottery", they say. "We're making people aware of this desperate situation."
Puh-lease! It is like a lottery so good luck to them if it gets more people to donate. Already on this thread we've had ppl saying 'don't donate organs' so you know how widespread the problem is.
It's a [sad] fact that 'modern life' is now focussed on 'celebrity' so if you want anything you've got to be prepared to dance like a monkey - or no peanut. Case in point is Madeleine McCann who was abducted in Portugal. A tragedy indeed, but one of hundreds happening every day around the world. Why did Madeline 'win the lottery' ie have her story picked up by the media? Because her abduction made 'good copy' and her parents were willing to do whatever it took (ie talk to any media any time) to keep public interest alive.

I don't 'get' what the big deal about Solid Energy hiring a spy is all about. Seems fair to me - it's not like they hired someone to infiltrate the group and incite unlawful actions so the group would be viewed badly. They manage that on their own. Can't walk ten feet in Ponsonby without seeing a "Save Happy Valley" stenciled somewhere.
Besides, the turncoat seems to have turnedcoat again and is now supporting the group. Stockholm Syndrome perhaps?? I'm betting more than one SHV memeber told the lad if he was seriously remorseful for his actions he would donate all the money received for his spying to the SHV coffers.

I enjoyed it immensely but I can't see it taking the US by storm. But then the US market is so huuuge that even an underground cult hit should secure them some prime waterfront real estate anywhere of their choosing in NuZild.
Prediction Some political pointscoring in the House when it screens on Prime - along the lines of "Why did TVNZ miss this talent/show? What's the point of the Charter?" -
I give them 3/10 for presentation but full marks for content. I was unaware that record companies only pay half the usual royalty for an internet download and also charge the artist a 25% 'packaging' charge - despite there being no packaging. OMFG! That really does explain all about the motives of the Big Record/Media companies in pushing this.
Since it's easier and cheaper for a consumer to download off the internet than go to shop and buy an actual CD how do they justify a reduced royalty to the artist?? -
speaking of LOL .... how do you think they got that little girl in the Pet Med banner ad above to cry? Did they:
a] smack her in the face
b] tell her Mummy is dead
c] show her a picture of a really bad car accident
d] made her drink 6 glasses of water and then wouldn't let her go potty? -
I'm sure privilege would extend in such circumstances, otherwise Ministers would be dragged into court everytime someone was upset with what they said in the House.
In any case, MP's would argue that a reading of Hansard in court should suffice, if that is all you're trying to prove (that they said "XYZ" in the House) -
