I once explained to a friend that her outfit was making me feel very impolite because it rather drew my eyes away from her face when I was talking to her; she responded that "in this outfit, if you weren't staring at my tits I'd be insulted."

And then she placed her hand on my knee, leant forward, and whispered breathlessly: "Roger, are you that blind? I've been trying to get your attention for years!" and with that she moved her hand further up my leg. I looked at her directly and in her eyes I finally noticed a yearning I'd never seen before. How could I have been that blind? Why had I never realised we could be more than 'just friends'?
Probably because she looked like Princess Fiona. The ogrey one, not the camerondiazzy one. It didn't matter what her t!ts looked like, I still wasn't interested.

    but back to topic:

In the real world, of course, Richwhite will buy his way out of his pesky insider trading rap like his fellow defendants have already.

I thought that's what they did when they 'paid' for the original challenge for the America's Cup? Despite what Ranapia said earlier, there is a still a stench surrounding Fay & Richwhite that hasn't been resolved. Probably due to the fact that no Govt is willing to investigate.

FR are the merchant bankers who were charged with finding the best buyers when Labour decided to sell off the family silver. And those DumbR's in Govt thought it was acceptable for FR to errect a 'chinese wall' around their Auckland & Wellington offices ~ the result being that Wellington handled the sale and Auckland bought the frigging assets - and then later sold them at a huge profit. It's the same way that the new Russian and Chinese billionaires gained their wealth - buying state assets cheaply from a govt that doesn't know their worth and profiting immensely.

NZ's most successful business man, Graeme Hart, got his start in exactly the same way. To quote Wikipedia "Hart gained a big break when he bought Government Print Agency for less than its capital value"

__like an english council estate, without the poor people__

But English council estates would be lovely without the poor people f...ing them up! Actually, after Thatcher had a lot of the underclass thrown down coal mines, many of them are quite nice. I have friends who live on quite idyllic ones.

Seriously, if you've ever been to the Barbican in London, it's a 1960s system built deck access estate, just like the Mozart, only the people who live there are mostly wealthy. And it's a nice place to hang out. It's got residential in the middle, offices and pubs around the edges and even a preserved church and a large chunk of the city walls included.

You can't buy smack there though apparently, unlike the Mozart.

heh heh heh. I had 2 LOL cos that's the truth Ruth! As a former state house kid (no, I'm not John Key) you have to laugh (to keep from crying) at the state of state housing these days. The Govt/Chris Carter has such grand utopian visions of 'blended communities' yet you know it will all end in tears. Upwardly mobile kiwis do do not want to live next door to a state house full of Junior Gang Prospects. Carter's plans for Glen Innes and Hobsonville will be interesting to watch.

    From RB's linked story:

Still, some remained fooled; a $32m hand-out from the New Zealand taxpayer was forthcoming just to tide the syndicate over until real funding was available, and the search for benefactors started again.

How much did the whole campaign cost ie how much did Emirates kick in compared to NZ taxpayers? Where's our logo? I don't see newzealand.com anywhere.

They mutter things about Global event, international audience, we paid for it.....

Are you calling Mr Grigg a liar? As he points out:

On of the things about being in this part of the world is never seeing a mention of the Americas Cup...

I just got back from a week in Oz and there was nary a mention there either. Kiwi taxpayers have really been sold a pup on this one, because quite honestly it's not a global event. The world is unaware of yachting and it is of sod all cost/benefit to us really. (And I flew to Sydney on Emirates, first time too, and their economy service is waaay better than Qantas, which is waaaay better than AirNZ's)

And as an Auckland apartment dweller, I'd remind everyone that each CBD worker living in town rather than the 'burbs is a car not clogging the roads every day. Some apartment blocks may be ugly, but motorways are a lot uglier.

Hear hear! And as a former Viaduct apartment dweller might I also point out that I would wet my pants regularly laughing at how much taxpayers/ratepayers money was spent beautifying the Viaduct area in time for the Cup. Which was a very short timeframe actually but gee those apartments owners must be happy with the FORTY MILLION DOLLARS ratepayers paid for the paving of Market Place Square.

The success and the crime of the patriarchy is that the exploited sex class is taught to experience pleasure from their exploitation without learning its name.

Ah, this would explain why multi Olympic medal winner (and about to compete in Bejing too) Amanda Beard was on Letterman the other night to promote her spread* in Playboy

*No actual spread. As Hef famously pointed out: unlike in Penthouse, Playboy girls keep their legs together. Ah, so that's what makes it okay then...

  • Radiation: Crossing the line,

It would be remiss of me not to mention his recurring role on Lost. :-)

Ha! I stopped watching mid way trhru the 2nd series -- and my life is no worse!! I kept telling myself I'll catch up by watching the Box Set on DVD but ... funny how it seems so less important now ...

Here in Sydney the shadowy figure hidden behind bandages in Ugly Betty has been revealed as ......

  • Radiation: Crossing the line,

speaking of television ... Alan Dale the kiwi actor (anyone remember Radio Waves on South Pacific TV?)(SPTV was the fore-runner to TV2) now starring in Ugly Betty has just scored a role in the fourth installment of the Indianna Jones franchise.

I can't tell you what the role is, but the NZ MSM shouldn't expect everything delivered to them on a plate via PA.

  • Hard News: Contains strong language,

    Here's my Census story:

Last century (the last time I filled one out, you'll see why shortly) the Census Person came to my door to drop off the forms. Turned out it was a guy I went to school with. We had a chuckle about old times, he gave me the spiel about how important the information was for Govt planning, how it was all confidential, and said he would be back in a week to collect the completed form.

He collected the form a week later, but returned a day later saying my responses were no good and he couldn't accept them. He said he knew I had lied on the form. I said how did he know I was lying? and I refused to fill in any more forms. The "lie" I had made was that I said in the employment section that I was a prostitute, earning $40k a year.

Of course it was lie, but he wasn't to know that, and besides ... so much for being confidential! I haven't filled one out since.

oh, you mean like the Contras and the Bush / Noreiga connection.

Snap! That caller stole my thunder. There's nothing that hasn't been done in modern times that wasn't lifted out of the US's Vietnam Playbook. (excuse the tripledouble negative) It was the US that tried to have Chavez ousted as soon as he was elected, and they admit it.
As for ASBO's ... forget boy-racers - I bet they are being implemented to prevent dissent whenever a Chinese delegation comes to town. Only a fascist could think they were a good idea ...
