yes! Tom: play the ball not the man - we want to hear your IDEAS
-
Geoff: yeah I was thinking about that 'good' too - on a jury I doubt I'd be able to decide that 'good parental correction' could include include smacking and therefore the issue wouldn't come up

voter turnout in CA elections is crap, especially for off year ones (makes it even easier to play this game)
Elections should be fought on ideas - not with voter suppression tricks
While we're at it how about banning people running push-polls on the public purse - another evil american thing we don't really need
-
I OEed in California for 20 years - there getting a particular initiative on the vote that would get your supporters out to vote is a time honoured strategy (esp. by the Republicans)
I think that not having parliamentary elections and referendums on the same ballot is a healthy thing - it avoids the sort of abuse seen elsewhere

I remember him writing a pretty nasty piece for Critic against feminists and lesbians - and when he failed to get elected in a student elections telling us "just you wait I'll be prime minister some day and you'll all be sorry" - anyone who was pro-tour at Otago back then was in a decided minority

to be fair back in prohibition times (up untill the 19070s in some parts of NZ) the new fangled stock exchange was not all that new - though decidedly fangled, especially from about 1929 onwards

I agree with the two who mention Michael Laws sploshing onto the beach.... And then the Mozambique police politely ask him to put his weaponry down, explain that Zimbabwe, being landlocked, doesn't actually have a coastline, and offer to arrange for his transport home.
damn, how do I get this coffee out of my keyboard

Mathew:
As I said in another thread, sure tobacco costs waaaaaay more than pot in terms of cancers and other illnesses, but that's because pot isn't used as widely. Remove the legal sanctions on its consumption, and watch the related harm figures soar.
yes - but people have spent a lot of money and research on minimising the harm caused by tobacco (so they can keep selling it) - lets do some research on the relative merits of various delivery systems - for example I expect that pot brownies might cause more issues around cholesterol than smoking tobacco does - but might cause less lung cancer

actually I kind of imagine Laws as the hotheaded full-of-himself lieutenant who jumps up and does something incredibly stupid and gets shot as soon as they hit the beach - the crusty non-coms (all gangmembers who've been around the block many times) just look at each other knowingly
Rickard of course plays the major who gets shot by his own troups during training

In fact I think that alcohol and tobacco being ignored when considering drug harm probably has more to do with capitalism than socialism
