Timing is everything

"Solo Passion", spooky, that's like "Sleeping Dogs" was to 1981.

"Owen McShane's bizarre offerings "
All that was needed - Owen McShane can only grasp the wrong end of any stick.

It is World Youth Day, any protest needs to be PG in nature and so issues held against the Pope (who has a few - he was Hitler Youth - although not by choice) need to be ballanced against the biggest kids fest - like forever.
Coupled with the new authoritarian age of the War of Terror that has captured the imagination of all domestic police forces.
I really don't see Sydney becoming a theocracy with an Ozzy version of Swiss Guards poncing around. Rather a protective tendancy towards the kids and the Cops own authoritarian issues at play.

"The Pope touched me down under"
That T-shirt would do well amonst a few of my friends . -
"This was their time in the sun again, and they seemed to be out in force too."
You seem to be talking of Ozzy Catholics as 'other'.
Australia is a majority Catholic CountryReligions:
Catholic 26.4%, Anglican 20.5%, other Christian 20.5%, Buddhist 1.9%, Muslim 1.5%, other 1.2%, unspecified 12.7%, none 15.3% (2001 Census) CIA World Factbook. -
Red-necks on the panel today - (missed most of it but was in the car to hear) Rosemary McLeod and Graeme Bell calling for Veitches blood & how these days people won't take responsibility.
Umm - 20yrs ago in Bells time on the force this was "just a domestic" where no action would be taken. It seems pretty sure that there is a serious impact on Veitches pocket, both payout and loss of earnings. An impact that would never have happened then. I think this might be evidence of the changing public opinion towards Domestic Violence.

In our kulture where we have 'Supermodels' and reality TV shows about the lucrative 'profession' of modeling I can't condem her too much.
It was all tasteful in bikinis and the like. It's purpose is another thing though.
18-21 my sport was surfboats where the uniform was a pair of speedos worn in the style of a G-string & getting nude and taking photos was pretty normal (sober or drunk). We were young - if anyone would have given us cash for it I would have taken it too.
Early 90s I knew a couple of guys who stripped, but that was too much for most of us & they were odd anyway.

Simon Mortensens excercise in getting a firearms licence is the most disturbing thing ever.
He can't shoot, never has, but might one day choose to roam the wilds firing shots at things that are alive.
He's a pom (Anglophilia is a sign of the RNZ) with no privious experience with firearms.
Try and equate that with say a car. I'm a 'decent' person and so can have a licence to drive, never driven before, and don't have a car or any interest in getting a car soon, but I have a licence to drive.
Having a licence to drive - passed the theory and so I'll be free to drive on the roads - no experience or expertise necessary. It highlights deficencies with the presenter and our firearms laws.

RNZ isn't too bad, but what of "The Panel" - Let your red-neck shine!
Barry Corbett, Julia Hartley-Moore, Gordon McLaughlin, Sue Wells and Martin 'Bomber' Bradbury.
Just to name a few of the bitter angry conservative rednecks that are favoured by - Jim & the Panel.
