There was a fascinating programme on TV7 (of course) a few weeks ago about the rental bike scheme in Paris. They had thought through all the problems that had arisen in other cities and come up with innovative answers and their system seems foolproof, vandalproof and sustainable. For the few hills they had an incentive scheme to leave bikes at the top, and a floating cycle repair barge floated on the Seine. David, I think they should sent you to Paris to investigate it.

Sorry I don't know his name. One of those interchangeable men in suits who pop up half way through the TV3 6 pm news to say what's gone up and down that day, as part of their ASB sponsorship deal. Was slightly unusual as they usually just stick to that without PM fan comments.

Four hours later, the Prime Minister was across town strutting his stuff in front of an 800-strong top-drawer audience hosted by the influential Transtasman Business Circle. These power-brokers – who flew in from around New Zealand – are the ones who Key needs to ensure remain confident in the country’s prospects.
This is what the man from ASB on the TV3 news must have attended. He gave a little advertorial for the PM and repeated the false lines from the presentation that the last government left the country's finances in a mess.

I disagree Andrew - I was surprised by the fire of Phil Goff's speech, especially his commitment to a Labour/Green government. It was that values stuff about fairness and justice and I thought he got a very warm response. Then he came and chatted to people in the crowd which seemed to be appreciated by those near me. Metiria's speech great too. Good diversity of people there. I'm always impressed by those staunch and colourful members of the Service and Food Workers Union, and some of those women probably gave up their precious daytime sleep to come out and protest on behalf of their colleagues who have some of the poorest wages and conditions.

Here is John's reply to Don.

I think the Stop Asset Sales signs are quite a clever, simple, below the radar campaign linking policy and emotiion. They pop up all over the place such as in that Clyde Dam story on TV3 and I've just seen some in downtown office windows.

I think it is quite brave of Phil Goff that he is asking for an inquiry, considering some of this happened under his watch. Key's attempts to dismiss this story are not going to work this time. Metro is proving it's worth, just as it did with the Unfortunate Experiment story in the 1980s.

John Campbell had an interesting but too short interview with Jon Stevenson (who is becoming a bit like our local Robert Fisk) who likened OBL to the head of a franchise like McDonalds, and that the franchises still remain, and also mentioned that being dead isn't necessarily a bad thing for his reputation.
Unfortunately, John Campbell didn't ask him for his reaction to John Key's attack on his (Stevenson's) credibility today at his press conference.

It even recommends Friday's How to look at a painting (which is an excellent programme).
