I think of Gary Brain every time the flight attendant tells us to be careful opening the overhead lockers as items may have shifted in flight :-(
Me three!
I recall him being interviewed prior to his accident about percussion generally - was very cool without being try-hard or patronising - it was on a kid/teenagers show with Danny whathisface from talkback now... sort of magazine style show... ack, damn memory... anyone?
But yeah, I too think of him almost everytime the Stewards recommend caution or whatnot... not a bad legacy I 'spect though didn't he go on to be a conductor of note (better perhaps that a Timpanist)?

It's not great but... too clearly derivative of The Games and so far too cautious in the selection of issues.

(Caution: link may damage your heterosexuality).
Yeah, could well do... wouldn't it be just so cool to be able to fling yourself about like that...

I'm genuinely pleased to read that National would not significantly change the current IR laws. I think this is a good move on their part.
I know the Standard is already reviewing their policy more rigourously than I have time to (plus until we see the full detail, well...) but IR was once a fault line in NZ politics and too many people fell into the constantly shifting margin. Key's done the right thing electorally and substantively by agreeing to the status quo.

$1850, from memory, which was less than some places wanted for the next Bravia down.
The same model sells for a similar price in AUD. I'm trying not to be envious...

It's a Bravia D series with the 100MHz "motion flow" technology which is reckoned to be a good thing for watching sport and other fast-moving pictures.
Ahhh, the really whizzy one I couldn't afford then... the LG 100 hertz was an option but a knowledgable friend suggested it was not worth the price premium (and then confused me with techno-babble) but tried to convince me to buy the Bravia...
I find rugby's fine on my TV but AFL not as good (so there goes any sympathy I could have hoped for).

At the risk of starting a conversation I'll struggle to follow, are you watching HD TV on a 50 or 100 hertz TV?
I've not yet upgraded to the Foxtel HD equivalent in Aust, but recently bought a LCD 50 hertz TV. I did some reading and of the stuff I understood, I came to the conclusion that the 100 hertz technology wasn't quite ready (and had potentially been rushed to market according to one reviewer) so I'm wondering if I'll be able to fully appreciate HD?

Taking in a more recent, less rock, perspective I'd add Coldplay's drummer, Will Champion, to the mix for the sheer ferocity of his playing. I'm over the band, having seen them once too often, but man he plays hard.

Oh yeah Krupa's amazing, Joe Morello too. There's a youtube (can't access this at work) of Brubeck's Take Five with the famous Morello solo... or you can follow it from a link here (and if you do, you should also check this out, the link to the Purdy shuffle

Thanks Jolisa, this is a wonderful story with obvious modern day application. I love reading to my youngest, 3, who I suspect will soon "read" a couple of books herself given how frequently she hears them. One of my favourites at the moment is this book, Pssst; though it's not got the utopian theme of Andrew Henry, there's a great ending which, judging by my daughter's reaction, kids totally get.
