Thanks for the kind words; it was a fortuitous shot. Capture is proving a new favourite within the PA stable. Inspiring in fact (though I too, use mainly my phone). Danielle, that splash shot is great... joyous in fact!

Merry Christmas, you all.
Belatedly, and you too Russell and to all engaged in Public Address. I've said it before but it entirely justifies repeating; this is a wonderful community and an invaluable link to my Tūrangawaewae.

Capture: Someone, Somewhere, In Summertime, in reply to
It’s Kakamatua, Paul. Near Cornwallis.
A belated thanks Jackie. Just returned from holidays and revisiting this thread to see all the fantastic photos - TraceyMac, thanks for the shot of Oriental Parade, I lived there for a while and miss it, particularly when the weather is so wonderful.
This is my favourite shot from my Christmas. My 7 year old bowling to her friend on NYE (down the south coast of NSW).

This was Red Beach today …
I spent a lot of time at Red Beach in my teenage years. This new photo thread to PAS is making me very homesick.
felt really pleased with this picture
I’m really impressed by the in focus/out of focus effect. I suspect that’s something my phone won’t do… or if it did, I’d not correctly assign subjects.
That’s how you know it’s a dog beach.
Which beach is it Jackie? I particularly like beaches with creeks/lagoons that feed into them.
Great evening light
Stunning light Nora, I've only just worked out that the light before a storm creates lovely contrasts (I'm not terribly visual, it had to be very directly shown/explained to me)... with hope, there's a storm forecast for Sydney tonight... I'll post any efforts of interest.

Hard News: Music: In before Christmas, in reply to
Memory suggests there's a Paul Kelly song that's similar.
I'm guessing you mean How to Make Gravy? It's a tear jerker. Here's a nice live performance.

However, broader societal forces are not aimed the same way and I used that language to make a point. Sorry that it didn't come across clearly!
Tamara, I assumed that's where you were heading. The broader social stuff is the challenge, agreed. I've been surprised by some of my kids' behaviour over the years and wondered not only where it was learned but how it displaced what I thought we were modeling?

Hear ye, for Sanctuary has spoken: the gendered nature of gun violence and mass shootings is not at all relevant. Good to know.
Got to say, I think that's a perfectly reasonable reply to what was an unduly sarcastic comment Tom. No doubt this is a challenging issue, but a unique quality of this community is the respect we maintain while furiously disagreeing.
Dare I even take it to the extreme: boys should be trained to be even more passive than girls, so as to overcome the effect of the biology!
Perhaps if we replaced 'trained' with nutured and 'passive' with respectful (or other terms)? I've got three girls, none of them I would want to be 'passive', none are.

Reading that NYT piece is a challenge. I can't quite imagine the phrase "many unlicensed gun ranges" being in common parlance and yet clearly it was. Elsewhere there's a comment about these being "no ordinary guns"; what inference do you take from that?
