Um, no Paul. "X. didn't meet with Y., but there's got to be a secret agenda in there somewhere" is Ian Wishart territory, and I don't see why it shouldn't be called out as such.
We might be talking at cross purposes. My comment was in relation to this part of the article.
It is far from uncertain that Key isn't trying to have it both ways, though- witness his rapid flip-flop over his earlier advocacy of inclusive adoption reform- compensating for his vote against Gordon Copeland's same-sex marriage ban bill in December 2005, no doubt
I think the developing narrative is that Key's strategy is to simply adopt Labour policy or to change his mind to suit the circumstances. In which case, and particularly with regards the latest change of mind and adoption of Labour policy, my question remains; why on earth would you vote for him?
At this rate, I agree with the earlier comment (this or another thread) that the only difference will be size and spread of tax cuts; <qenuine_question>__is that enough?</genuine_question>__

I think it's more important to find out whether he's stopped beating his wife, personally.
Craig, that's a fair misdirection; Young's point is surely that Key's increasingly compromised. How can he credibly claim to be an alternative to Clark when there's very little a National government would do compared with Labour. Perhaps we might stick to this?

National's former campaign manager and new list candidate Steven Joyce has defended the Exclusive Brethren's right to wage a third-party campaign in 2005, but says he no longer has contact with the group.
This quote is from the NZH article. Is Joyce saying he thinks what the EBs did was ok or was his a more general comment about third-parties? Either way, I agree that his timing is apalling.

First thing he said was that he needed to learn more. I look through my rulebook often, and after two years of refereeing, including at national finals, I often find out new information by reading it.
Ah ha, an expert parading as a spectator. You're for it now Kyle.
But seriously, the missed tackle on Sivivatu was a remarkable omission; actually a lot worse than the "foward pass" that cost us the last World Cup. Aren't the linesmen now "assistant referees", where on earth were they?

I've no first hand knowledge of how Labor in NSW or Australia is run, but the limited second hand knowledge I do have suggests that this article is pretty accurate. Scarey!

1. Doesn't work for me and I love keyboard shortcuts... please send help!

i've a sneaking suspicion that educational levels and gender are well skewed over at kiwiblog, and *slightly* more even here.
I suspect there's a much higher incidence of rabies at kiwiblog.

FletcherB, thanks - I didn't know this (although it was in fact in the item I linked to, but I'd missed it) and will follow up.

Buddha, Allah, Jesus and Jehovah... Have you stopped beating your wife yet, Paul? Sorry, but that's about as seriously as I'm going to take that.
I kinda anticipated that response Craig. I have checked and I'm wrong about Family First - it's Sensible Sentencing that Franks so regularly and fondly quotes. I inadvertently equated his support for that bunch of neanderthals for the other bunch.

I'm not sure this fits here, but I've just seen this item about a film being made of Maurice Gee's Under the Mountain. Fantastic. I loved the book and the TV series.
