I don't have much sympathy for your middle class angst of "struggling" to fit back in. I find you comment that you feel brave and wise to be here incredibly condescending. Want do you want, a medal? You seem to be saying that somehow the country owes you adebt of gratitude for deigning to return to it's empty, culturally bereft streets.
For goodness sake harden up, you carry on like you've been moved to Mars.
Five generations of my forebears were born here before I came along. That means I have lost any sense of belonging - or wanting to belong - anywhere else. I am unashamed to say I am untroubled by any conflicted loyalties and I am patriotic New Zealander. Our people have and will achieve great things.
I think you should be a little more pleased that somehow in the lottery of life, out of almost seven billion humans, you are only one of four million who have already won one of the biggest prizes.

It would save a lot of time if you just linked to the Labour Party talking points, or at least properly attributed.
If you could point out anything factually incorrect in what I wrote I'd be grateful.
otherwise STFU
k
thnx.

Having a listen to the radio and reading the paper, it seems to me the main political battleground to come out of this budget is the gutting of the Cullen Fund. Eleven years? Bill English won't be the finance minister in three years let alone eleven.
National has a perfect record of being wreckers of any atttempt to fund retirement in a sensible way. Gutting the Cullen fund has given Labour a long-term political gift on a plate.

Come on George - don't you remember the near hysterical pitch the calls for tax cuts got to just last year? Any attempt to apply a CGT would only have a mountain of invective for "yet another tax when six pack joe Kiwi's want a tax cut."
Politics is about the possible you know.

I hope everyone pauses and has a little grateful prayer of thanks to Michael Cullen, whose refusal to feed the bubble with tax cuts is the only thing between us and Iceland.

A typical Tory budget.
Long on bean counting, short on vision and driven by the Treasury. I don't know why people bother voting for National, all they do is elect a bunch of pin stripes from the Terrace.

I had a listen to the Standard and Poors fellow on the radio the other day, and I sorta skim read Fran O'Sullivan's column (you don't actually have to read her ideological fart columns to know what they will contain) and I guffawed at the drivel from Roger Kerr in the Herald the other day to. With Roger, Satire is redundant.
These people, more than anything else, still don't get it. They can't see that their culpability and guilt in the financial crash and the cheerleading of their media collaborators like O'Sullivan have made them all a joke.
The behaviour of the shysters of the finance sector like S&P and the gangster banksters has completed discredited them, possibly for a generation.
They seem to believe the real world collapse of their ideological empire is irrelevant and come twelve months from now they'll be able to carry on like business as usual.
They need a real wake up, Chavez style.

If you are going to promote yourself I've always thought humour whilst twisting the knife is always the way to go.
Billboard:
Have an attractive women in negligee in the colour of the city you are advertising in (you know, red and black in Christchurch, etc) sitting up in bed staring in wide eyed delight at a chiselled man wearing an Auckland rugby jersey and nothing else (back view only) and the new slogan for Auckland:
"Auckland - because size matters."

They also waste hundreds of thousands of dollars that could be spent on helping children/families and take away media attention from real charitable organisations that could desperately use it.
And support people like CRankin when they call for these organisations to be boycotted. When I was kid I tried to dig through the cement surround of the fireplace with a plastic spoon. I am sure the feeling I had then is the same one Russell Brown is having now.

A TVNZ staffer told me the moustache complaints were most ever receieved on any topic by TVNZ. Anymore of those and Mr. Henry will be looking for new employment. So complaining about him works.
I don't care very much about cycling/walking over the bridge - or rather, I would quite like to be able to walk over the bridge but it isn't something I'll protest over. But I wonder about this McDonald fellow. He comes across as a complete egotist and a bit of a wanker. If the telly is any guide (and it usually isn't) anyone with half a brain would have known his responses to the crowd were inflamatory. indeed, he seemed to enjoy goading the crowd with his arbitrary exercise of veto. I surprrised the police didn't tell him to STFU.
