I would agree with you, except that this second trial was totally unnecessary and, after fifteen years, impoosible for the crown to win.
The Attorney-General ought never have gone for a second trial. Now my hard earned taxpayer dollars are going to have to be forked out as compensation for David Bain, not guilty...(?)
-
Good news? 1994 policing was put on trial in 2009 with the full benefit of hindsight and innuendo.
David Bain's father has been smeared by his killer so he can walk free.

Just thinking, you make a good point. Perhaps it is just Key's misfortune to follow someone as awesome as Helen Clark, and the public has to high an expectation after her reign.
Or not.

John Key has been in parliament for six years, and never in government. His lack of experience is showing. He clearly likes to run a loose ship, allowing his ministers to get on with it. Local government in Auckland? Let Rodney get on with the job. Result? Rodney Hide has achieved something of a miracle, turning an issue most Aucklanders broadly agreed on into a PR disaster for the government.

More Aucklanders (31%) oppose than support (27%) the super city. 63% of Aucklanders believe consultation has been inadequate. A massive 70% say there should be a referendum. He hand picked an even more inexperienced class clone to run in Mt. Albert. Melissa Lee has run a terrible campaign and been hung out to dry.
Paula suggests Rankin? John is fine with that, if that is who she wants.
Steven Joyce - I note yet another rapidly promoted class clone - is unbridled and busy running the transport network entirely in the interests of his trucking mates.
The political management of this Richard Worth business is equally appalling - as a microcosm, an out and about John Key is filmed shown saying he doesn't want to say what the nature of the investigation is. Meanwhile, back at the ranch Judith Collins is interviewed happily telling journalists it is sexual in nature. Not a good look.
Key seemed unprepared for Mary Wilson and was unconvincing on Close-Up. He has never felt this heat before as government MP or even as a minister, let alone as Prime Minister.
Key is at his best being the affable Mr. Reasonable, agreeing to everything and telling people what they want to hear. He seems to think he can run cabinet and the country in the same way a board of directors might run a large corporation.
Politically, this scandal should have been easily dealt with. The facts are straight forward. He needs to get a grip on his government, because in the vacuum is fracturing. He needs to be better prepared. And he needs SOMEONE to think through the issues.

I tell you what is choice - inorganic collection week!!!!!
People have no idea what they are throwing out, or are to lazy to care.
I just went and gathered up 24 planks, finished unpainted pine, 2 metres long x 20cm wide x 25cm think. Thats has got to be $250-$300 timber easy. That plus another hundy at least of finished moldings, fence palings, a saw horse... The list goes on.
And I've collected at least the same dollar value again as firewood. Jeez, most of the houses I was collecting from had woodburners, cos I checked when I was hiesting their flatscreens... It is only an hour with the axe to reduce to fire box size people!!!!!

Close-Up really did make a balls-up of that, didn't they?
I think it is a chilling peek into how much journalists interview the internet these days.

The two dicks - Beavis and Butthead as boomers.
loves it!

To give Hooton his due, as a younger man more in touch with the modern world he immediately gave to Kudos to Goff for not dumping his allegation on the government at, say, the budget.
eBut basically, we are being treated to an awesome display of the right wing commntariats complete stranglehold on opinion making at the moment. At the moment, if a cabinet minister was caught bending an alter boy over a pew Plunkett would give the church a hard time and Griffin, Prebble, Hooten and co would blame the Cardinal.
And John Armstrong would write a piece congratulating John Key on how he had put the Catholic Church in its place and enhanced his governments reputation.
-
Oh but Gareth - there is nothing to see here! John Key is being decisive, Phill Goff is to blame.
-
It seems we can all breath easy. According to Sean Plunkett and his two Dicks - Griffin and Prebble - it is all Phill Goff's fault. In an interview which descended into a Fox News farce, apparently some Labour Party activist complaining about Dr. Worth "getting a bit fresh" is all Labour's fault. I don't even know where to begin with the stunning sexism of those men.
This scandal has been a perfect illustration of rightwing media commentators in damage control for their government. Plunkett, Prebble and Griffin would be more suitable to NewsTalk ZB that our flagbearer radio show. And Slater??? For fucks sake. And I imagine Paul Henry is only interested in how attractive the victim is.
National has come to power wityh a poor reputation amongst women voters. The reaction of their right wing cheerleaders shows us why.
