if I wanted to call Hide a fascist, I would do so. Calling this frankly ludicrous man the 3.6% Mussolini hopefully both reminds people he has no mandate and envokes a Mel Brookes view of this buffoon.

  • Hard News: Rodney's Folly,

On an similar tangent I read Bernard Hickey's column on his suggestions for tax reform. Hickey's stale ideas amount to little more than a rehash of trickle down voodoonomics and further moving the tax burden onto the poorest New Zealanders. As sure as night follows day, we all know the tax review will bring out a list of similar ideas.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE? Can't they have more than one idea in the freaking lives???

My Take? I think John Key is giving Rodney Hyde just enough rope to hang himself.

More like Key will again give Rodney enough coal to trainwreck the National Government. If we can now see a trend it is this - Rodney will run amok for several weeks, alarming people and frightening small children. Key doing nothing about it. Then suddenly, when all the PR damage has been done, Key will say soothing things and appoint a minder to look over Rodders shoulder. the whole engine will then grind to a halt in a confused welter of blowing steam and obscuring smoke, and no one will know whether the whole thing was bad management, a bungled hidden agenda or a bad dream.

  • Hard News: Rodney's Folly,

Paul, with all due respect your plan appears to be more grounded in being on the wrong of a single issue than common sense.

meanwhile, it seems clear to me that the 3.6% Mussolini is out of control. Now he plans to drown local government in the bath.

Amd once again, Rodney is showing that he believes that silly things like democracy and consultation are non-core activities that interfere with the orderly looting of the state for his big business buddies.

It seems to me agenda of our preposterous little Mussolini is clear.

1/ Gut local democracy and hand over power to an oligarchy of your mates.

2/ Drown local government in the bath with faux populism (talking point de jour: My Fair Lady/David Beckham) and force it concentrate on ACT-defined "core activities".

3/ Get your oligarchy elected in step one to privatise the lot at fire sale prices to a corrupt crony capitalist elite who will proceed to extract monopoly rents from the peasants for roads, water etc.

4/ Complete the feudal transformation of New Zealand by giving Rodney plum jobs on the board and a knighthood for services to local government.

PS, I just learnt how to post a link!

Cameron Slater? Is this the same hip shaking and moving insider privy to the most carefully guarded party secrets Cameron Slater that apparently picked David Shearer & Labour to be in real trouble Mt. Albert as late as last Friday???

  • Hard News: Mt Albert Old-School,

He was at the "tunnel or nothing" march on Saturday.

Which is more than one can say for Steven Joyce, who appears to have conveniently lied to the meida when he said he would "return to the Mt. Albert electorate within two weeks" to discuss the motorway issue - yet another of the glib off-the-cuff comments designed to keep the immediate audience happy that this government seems to specialise in.

If anyone could tell what the hell Chris Trotter is on about I'd be grateful.

Honestly, as Che Tibby said - what is it about men of a certain generation?
