Banks won't be re-elected and I'll stake my real name on that. Swney will pull out in the final week and pass his votes Dullard. Er, Hubbard.
Does it work like that in mayoral elections? I mean, if I vote for Swney and he pulls out after I post my ballot, can he transfer my vote for him to Hubbard?

Ack! Beaten by the master.
Fear our google skillz!
But it looks like his anti-Wellington College rant is original, though.

There were some screengrabs from the Bebo page in question here
I was reading his anti-emo rant, and thinking, "Man, he knows a lot about 20th century pop culture to be able to write all that."
Then I got suspicious and googled it, which lead me to Encyclopedia Dramatica's emo entry. Cut 'n' paste, baby!
Evidently young master English is down with the lulz.

BTW, does anyone under 35 understand the Selwyn Toogood reference ;)
Hey, I'm 32 and I got it. I remember watching Beauty and the Beast during the school holidays.
I recommend Selwyn's autobiography "Out of the Bag", which pops up from time to time on Trade Me.

The listed price of CDs when they first appeared was around the $30 mark
Ah, I was kind of guessing with $22. All I remember is that as a 13-year-old, CDs seemed so outrageously expensive that I couldn't even dream of buying them.
I heard some some young teenage boys talking on the bus today. One of them had some rare new song - "You can't even download it yet!". He played it to the other on his cellphone. I'm glad music is like this now.

I remember in the late '80s, LPs and tapes were about $12 and CDs were about $22. The logic was that because CDs were new, fewer people bought them and they cost more to make.
But that $10-ish price gap remained there and CD prices steadily increased, even when tapes died, LPs became niche and the CD dominated.
One of the happiest days of my life was when I went to Tower Records in LA in 1993 and bought a whole bunch of new CDs that were about half of what I'd have paid in Aotearoa.
Something is going on.

This is something I found on Arts and Letters Daily. The title is Virtual Friendship and the New Narcissism.
I meant to say thanks for that link, Kowhai. It was a very interesting read, and it inspired my last comment.
(Also, this is my 500th comment. Go, PA System!)

I think that in time people will become more adept at using the privacy settings
Back in the day, it was all-or-nothing - you either put stuff online for all to see, or you didn't upload it. I think that taught me the art of self-restraint.
I have this idea that teenagers might be quite open with their internet presences because a) teens often have fierce egos and want everyone to know how truly awesome they are, and b) authority figures have warned them against revealling too much, so they rebel.
-
Would I take the issue public if it wasn't already? Nope. But this wasn't done in private.
This made me think of Bill English telling off his son via the same media the comments were made, Bebo.
"it iz not kewl 4 u 2 say dat sum doodz r fags even if they hv been fagetized!!!!! bl nglsh lol"
I'm sure that Master English is not the only teenage boy in New Zealand who used anti-gay slurs as a way of insulting heterosexual friends and foes. And I bet he doesn't actually know any out-and-proud gay men, further removing the insult from the reality.

Ugh. Writing crap on your Bebo page is so gay.
I managed to sign up sign up for the Amazon music store using the 90210 hack and bought a Kanye West tune. Very nice. It's cool to be able to purchase in mp3 format.
