Bastards. Small-minded, box-ticking, divorced-from-everyday-life bureaucrats. My MiL will be fuuurious. Lots of old people out there for whom the mobile library is a lifeline; they just don’t go near a library any more, especially now South and the Linwood libraries are closed. And children out there have to go to the central city (or Lyttelton? if it’s open) for the nearest public library. A van is not enough. And don't tell me on-line ordering is a substitute; it's not. Libraries are some people's main social contact of a week.

Dont knock nailguns. Nearly all the old builders I know have tendonitis in the wrist and elbows. They wish the nailguns had been around years ago.
Or curled up fingers where the tendons in the fingers tighten so much the fingers curl up of the palm. Dad had two fingers amputated because of that.

Every building I have ever had an office, studio or worked in, in town (9+) has been demolished now
That erasure of personal history is odd: one of mine was on the top floor next to Smiths Bookshop in Manchester St. Now it's shingle, but I still "see" the old place above the chemists and Aji. Is that what it's like to be very old?
Most places in Christchurch I love (the hills, the valleys, the riverbanks, the beaches) are on dodgy land now. Scenic seems to equal unstable; but I’m not going to end up in bishopdale because it is solid. Yuk..
