Capture: Two Tales of a City, in reply to
Soon Gudrun. You will be welcome for coffee and cake when after this week (cross fingers) work is done on our house which should bring the kitchen out of the third world into adequate and comfortable: no hole in the floor! Proper benches! A place for the table! And a real laundry! So show week festivities have been off the agenda while we prepare for the building visigoths.

Home Time
Gudrun, you've caught some great pictures of Show week -- it's so photographed over so many years that it's hard to get a fresh angle, and you have achieved that.

Couldn’t agree more – but there’s something else about PAS that’s also incredibly valuable. It’s never wrong to remember that one size, one perspective, doesn’t fit all. There are times I’d like to wring the neck of each and everyone of you (and I’m sure the feeling is entirely mutual), but if your ideas can’t survive being tested, challenged and having the piss taken without mercy, what the hell use are they?
I agree mostly Craig but not about the neck-wringing. I only have one in that category (it's not you) and I try not to engage. As a novice net groupie, I'm stunned at how it's possible to get to "know" people via keyboard. Though I still don't fully trust that "knowing without seeing" thing, my ice floe is thawing.

But PAS is also a place where you are allowed to have your opinion changed and admit it. It’s OK to be wrong here.
I too really like that about PAS, which is good because my opinions are many and varied, often all at the same time.

PAS word-of-the-year time must be coming up soon.
Or even a word-of the decade?

Public Address is a grand place to be a small part of, and I thank all of you who made it. Capture lights my life (is directly responsible for me getting my photo mojo back after being shaken off course). I revel with you when you do the big story; am informed by the deep thinkings; and am often awed by how amazingly smart the bloggers and commenters are. The quake threads have helped me stay sane and make sense of the whole thing. And friendships made and a fernery given (thanks Sofiie!).
Thanks Russell and your tribe.I, like Geoff, would like to be able to make a small regular contribution to the PA bank account: how to do that?

Up Front: Or It's Who We're Drinking With..., in reply to
In some cases, it’s entirely the underlying stuff that’s driving demand for intoxication; in others, drinking problems cause the other problems.
Agreed. Recognition of that duality is important.
