  • Hard News: Awesome,

    It just gets weirder

If a small-town mayor ever ruled with an iron fist — it was Palin. Eleven days after taking office in 1996, she mailed letters to each of the city’s top managers requesting that they resign as a test of loyalty.

The Anchorage Daily News at the time reported the strange events: (via Nexis)

Mayor Sarah Palin sent the resignation requests Thursday to Police Chief Irl Stambaugh, public works director Jack Felton, finance director Duane Dvorak and Mary Ellen Emmons, the head of libraries. A fifth director — John Cooper, who oversaw the city museum — resigned earlier this month after Palin eliminated his position.

FWIW: I think we need to acknowledge that KOS got it half right (Palin's teen daughter was pregnant and the mono story was BS) and given the circumstances I think their (albeit wrong) conclusion was reasonable.

  • Hard News: Awesome,

    Prediction:

Palin will pull out of VP stakes, saying the personal attacks on her family/daughter are beyond what she was prepared for and family comes first. Rightwing MSM will attack Leftwing Blogosphere. Pushpolling will confirm X% of voters believe Obama/Obama Campaign was behind the smears. PUMA's return to the fray, outraged.

Employer received $1,000,000.00 federal earmark, requested by husband, after her promotion

the Feds gave a million dollars to a University hospital? Crikey, that really is the slippery slope to socialism ...
And are you sure it was $1,000,000.00 and not $1,000,000.98¢?

I have a sixty three year old partner and am getting to the age where I'm reluctantly accepting that the body can't take a thrashing like it used to.

Maybe it's time you let him hold the whip once in a while Craig, and you might get a few more years yet!

  • Hard News: Go Us,

No attack on you intended, Mathew, but I guess I'm carrying a bit of baggage about how the Right made sooo much of Clinton (Bill) being unsuitable as CiC because he'd avoided military service, as if Dubya hadn't either. Up until recently Obama was also unsuited to the role of CiC (because of his inexperience) and yet now we're supposed to be impressed with Palin's credentials?

But anyway, I'm over this Palin thing. The VP choice does not decide elections. American voters reap what they sow. 2x2=4.

Lucky my path did not cross with KAOS. At Uni I tried to make 'Quack my Duck" a euphenism for a handjob/masturbation but it didn't catch on.

(Hmmm. I'm pathetic. Maybe Evan is right)

I'm with Mathew on this. Anyone who can bend a Librarian to her will is qualified to run the National Guard. Them Librarians is tuff, so the National Guard should be easy.

But seriously. Palin's behaviour as a small town mayor is no different to how the Neo Cons ran the Whitehouse. If you're not for me you're against me so get out and I'll replace you with someone who will do what I want.

Ergo, she is qualified to be VP/President.
(As the role has been redefined by the Republicans.)

I wuz waiting for that Sofie!

And since the fun has gone my known-only-to-me (cos its a misquote - how upmyself is that?) the "2x2=4/I know my twelve times tables" is a reference to **A Private Function** where the Liz Smith character is always keen to prove she's not ready for the old folks home by reciting multiplication tables.

They're coming thick and fast now!

Kos not deleting the diary is and will remain a stain on the netroots movement in the US for some time to come, methinks.

Valid opinion, but I also see merit in leaving it up (with suitable Updates) so that those hearing about it can see where the original firestorm came from. Besides, if they pull it someone else will post a copy and claim KOS were trying to deny/hide what they started.

Almost all posters have dangled a few of their own pop-references/in-jokes/group-talk/jargon just to see if people "get" them. Don't we all feel "oh so clever" that we are "in the know". ;-^

What hasn't been mentioned so far is the that the dark side of this practice is all about exclusion. if you don't pick up the reference then you aren't a member of the gang.

Say no more Evan, we understand. Methinks you've been standing 'round at parties clueless to the lingo, eh bro? I know how you feel - I can't shake hands with a person of colour in social situations now, such is my fear of doing last month's hand movement. Is he coming at me with a fist bump or a low five ...?

From now on whenever anyone drops one of those "in-crowd" references into a post I shall comment "That Is Just F*cked Up" which I will abbreviate to TIJFU (pronounce "tidge-foo" - like kung fu) so that we all know what I mean.

Your are now the In-Crowd Police, have a badge with that.
