  • Hard News: Go Us,

Wouldn't 'Bristol Palin's babydaddy' roll off the tongue a little more easily? I think they should go with that.

Yup. And 'Levi's babymama' sounds like an Erykah Badu lyric.

Whilst Wiki give the term babydaddy some credence, it's not really part of the lexicon. Babymama is a dismissive/negative term, and Fox used it when they described Michelle Obama as 'Obama's Baby Mama'. Hence my witty quip, which you have now ruined.
    ; )

A baby mama (also baby-mama and baby-mother) is a mother who is not married to her child's father.

Obviously the Palins are working hard to ensure that term never applies to Bristol.

    And John said:

do any cyclists care to comment on my modified shuttle bus idea, posted above?

The proposition to get cyclists to start up a van scheme seems a cumbersome and indirect method to get us to prove our good faith and our number. Change the setting and more people will come out, is what I'm saying.

If you read my whole post you'd see I went further than a van and suggested a modified bus (with all seats removed) doing a loop up and down the Bridge. I'd even be happy with 2/3/4 buses if demand merits it. But you (and your ...__ilk__!) seem hellbent on sticking with your Bridge-cycleway-or-nothing strategy so good luck with that.

  • Island Life: Still not over it,

the same council is dumping $51 million into a bridge across the Viaduct Harbour ($16 million over budget already and highly likely to rise) for the expressed purpose of representing "harbour context and distant views".

Yeah, and I'm opposed to that bridge too. It's a complete waste of f@#king money and a testament to the PC wooley headed thinking that makes up our council bureaucratic thinking.

And more ratepayers would be upset by these plans if they knew who will be using this bridge. Buses and pedestrians. Yes, that's all. It will be closed to all traffic (emergency vehicles excepted) except buses and pedestrians. What BS. What a waste of money.

But back to the Harbour Bridge: do any cyclists care to comment on my modified shuttle bus idea, posted above?

  • Hard News: Go Us,

This guy is saying that the Alaska convention delegates underwent four hours of media training on Sunday night, and claims to have the memo:

    > INTERNAL DOCUMENT - NOT TO BE EMAILED BEYOND CURRENT
    > DISTRIBUTION LIST
    >
    > Please see the following points on Gov. Palin's family.
    >
    > * Governor Palin and her husband Todd have a loving family
    > and their children mean everything to them. When their
    > oldest daughter Bristol came to them with news that she was
    > expecting a child they embraced her and gave her nothing but
    > unconditional love and support.
    >
    > * This is a very personal matter for the family. We should
    > all respect the love they have for the child and the desire
    > all parents would have for their children's privacy.
    >
    > * The media should respect Bristol's privacy.
    > That's always been the tradition and practice when it
    > comes to the children of candidates.
    >
    > * (If pressed) The children of candidates do not choose to
    > run for office and be thrust into the spotlight.

You gotta love the dark arts of PR. Why use the word 'pregnant' when 'expecting a child' creates a more wholesome image? One word can create negative images of unwed teen mothers (hitherto a drain on your taxes), whilst the other focuses attention on images of cute adorable newborn babies (baby jebus, even?).

Whilst I'm glad the Republicans have rallied around their VP candidate and given their wise Ian Grant smiles with a gentle 'It's an American story' soundbites for the media; I'm glad too that attention is now being focused on the GOP's record on teen mothers and sex ed

John McCain, whose running mate disclosed that her unmarried 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, has opposed proposals to spend federal money on teen-pregnancy prevention programs and voted to require poor teen mothers to stay in school or lose their benefits.

  • Island Life: Still not over it,

Why don't cyclists stop whining ("$40 million bridge cycleway, or nothing!") and get off their boney toned asses and organise the van shuttle themselves? Then the rest of us can see, yes, there are hundreds of cyclists who would use this service every day, even in the rain, and it will be worth it.

Another solution is to bring back the bike hooks they used to have on the back of buses. People used to hang their bikes and their prams on them, you just needed to let the driver know.

A better idea (since P freaks will be waiting at intersections to grab said bikes hanging on busbacks) is to just get a bus, strip out the seats (like those ones that take you to a plane on the tarmac) and have it run a loop service from one side of the bridge to the other. You could even use an electric bus so your green sensibilities are not compromised.

    How hard can it be?

The car ferry analogy earlier was a good one. We don't build bridges just because a dozen cars use the car ferry.

What kind of power-mad wackaloon asks a librarian to sign a loyalty oath?

To be fair, it's well known they are sleeper agents for Al Qaeda. They opposed the Patriot Act and fought attempts by Homeland Security to gain blanket access to people's library records.

Yeah, I can imagine a lot of things when I'm on acid too. It's a hell of a drug.

Acid? Uh ...yeah ... it was the acid ... that makes me imagine being in bed with both Michelle and Cindy ... oh and who dat? Sarah?
